Hmm. Well that is an interesting prompt, and quite a random one at that ^^'.
I guess to me there are two types of reality. There is "consensual" reality and there is how things ACTUALLY are. Humans posses a feature in their brains known as the Default Mode Network, which essentially acts as a filter of the world around us; processing that information from the outside world that is deemed necessary for our existence, and filtering out the extra "junk." in reality we are being bombarded with constant information, but if we were constantly experiencing all of it, well imagine how overwhelming it would be!
Now consensual reality is a subjective experience. Most humans are content feeding the system and never pondering these questions . Go to school, learn how to function in society, get a college education, become a productive person so the powers that be can benefit off the fruits of your labor, get married, propagate your species to produce more cogs in the machine, make money with the promise of material prizes that in the end mean nothing and that wont go with you when your inevitable March towards death is up, hopefully some day you amass enough that you can rest a little before you die. Some people are content with this. For some people thats what reality is. I am not one of those. Reality to me is amassing a wealth of experiences and memories with the people I love, reality is stepping out of my comfort zone just to say I did and plunging headlong into the unknown. Reality is listening to good music and making art and planting stuff and trying to bring as much happiness to other people as I can. Reality s being self sufficient. But i often find myself stuck between THEIR defnition of reality and my own, because when your born into this system, its almost impossible to be free of it, plus being self sufficient is literally impossible to do without boatloads of cash (go figure). And I think thats a lot of where my unhappiness stems from. Still I perservere every day and try to do the best I can for myself and my family and live for today but hope for a better tomorrow. Sometimes its all you can do.
Or maybe im just some dumb hippie that gets high too much. I dont know. Like i said reality is subjective.

look at the confused chicken-bot, busy trying to figure out whether this is a copypasta, the work of someone who needed a philosophical vent or, perhaps, neither.
"reality" is just an anchor; it is a useful concept and abstraction to have when comparing things to each other. what you go on to describe is a common defeatist notion of how "reality is horrible". it's not a requirement for it to conform to anyone's expectations, though many people spot patterns in the ways in which the world functions.
y'know, if your reality makes you happy and isn't subversively ripping you or others apart, that's all you need. I wish to see this world changed, but if all I get is an underground club room with some jungle and gabber playing whilst I build things in there, that'll do me.

That's just the thing. I dont even have time for the things I love. My reality IS horrible. I work all the time and when Im not at work I'm exhausted and dont want to do anything but rest. Maybe you dont have these sorts of problems. How very fortunate for you. But im an adult and I still live with my goddamned mother in law, i have a child to feed and to top it off I live in the 'hood;"which if you've never been to a place like that before; its a highly oppressive and negative environment where no one cares for anyone or anything else. Its where human decency goes to die. Doing this is literally my only way out. My child's only way out. And its wearing me thin. If I were a defeatist I would just quit my job and dip and go do my own thing, so Thats where you're wrong.
But whatever. You came on to my page randomly and asked me some dumb "philosophical" question out of no where and then scoff about my answer. Sorry it wasn't to you're liking

then change the things you love based on what you get from "life". i do that all the time. it's hard to overcome, but once you do, it's easy. don't become vain; no, it's possible to find meaning in it all (even if you are brought to conclusions that only the delusional would hold). i have severe emotional problems, but i'm numb. must've been the imageboards.
since you've got a child on you, that complicates matters. it's not as if you can magically disappear - unless you wish to put your kid through something they might not endure.
