Yeah it's still on going, there are 6 seasons to the anime.
I know that may seem like a lot, but each episode is only about 5 minutes long,
so it only feels like one or two seasons.

Yeah, exactly
all the characters are countries, and the anime is basically about showing the history,politics, culture, events, fun facts, etc of those countries.
It's very very stereotypical and it's not always historically accurate, but then again, its an anime so it's really only suppose to be funny and for entertainment. (Sometimes it can be sad and a little emotional)

There are LOTS of countries, but the 2 main groups in the anime are The Axis Powers, and The Allies.
Both of the groups are rivals to each other. 
*the main character is Italy who is really sweet and likes pasta and gets captured all the time.
*Germany is really tough and loud, and always has to rescue italy
*Japan is quiet, calm, polite, and intelligent
*America is hyper, super strong, he always wants to be the hero, and he really likes burgers.
*England is very proper, a total gentlemen, bad at cooking, and very mature
*France is gorgeous, likes roses, loves flirting, super romantic, and very fashionable.
*China is very good at martial arts, he likes pandas and hello kitty, he likes to complain about other countries, he can be serious, sometimes he's superstitious.
*Russia is intimidating, strong, sometimes creepy, he really likes vodka and sunflowers, and he doesn't really like America that much.
(Phew that was a lot to write, I hope I was able to explain it well enough,
