Yep, the girl in the video did go off the deep end. I have to admit that I had one critique in college that stung so hard that I had to bite my lip to keep from crying in front of everyone.

I see myself as more of a crafter than a fine artist. In ceramics class I made a lot of actually useful items like dinnerware and food grade dishes rather than sculptures. Well, one day I had made a communal bowl in the shape of a large bird's nest with little birds around the edge to rest one's chopsticks on. (In college my friends and I used to stir fry and curry a lot of foods and pick it out of the pan with chopsticks to save dishes while sharing a meal.) During the critique portion of the project I received a scathing review from my peers because they viewed my work as too domestic. Even after showing what I thought was a cleaver way of using sculpture as an everyday item and incorporating nature in the form like traditional Asian dishware they still came down hard. It seemed that all they wanted was avant-garde or surreal pieces. He professor still gave me one of the highest grades in the class, but it still hurt like hell to have one's peers be so critical.

Yeah, taking critique for something you´ve worked really hard on must be kinda tough in general. I can´t really relate because i´m no artist and when someone critiques me i always just think "oh wow, thanks for taking the time... but... i´ll probably forget this anyway."

You're welcome. I've always lusted after BJDs and it took me till 27 to finally get into (afford) the hobby. We are planning on entering one in the SC state fair under the dolls and teddybear craft category. It will be interesting to see how the country craft folk take to a very modern take on the doll hobby. bwahahahah!

Oh my... I haven't said hi in forever! How have you been! Cara and I are doing fine. We have good jobs and a nice place. We also adopted two adorable kitties that recently turned a year old. Life has been treating us well in South Carolina.

Are you and Richard doing well? Frauline and the other kitty? Did you make it back to Japan? Cara and I have a room reserved for Oni Con in Houston in October. Wanna meet up there?

hihi everything is same ol same ol here. frau and misao are doing well, i have another kitty too. oliver wormed his way into our lives with his cute looks and loving attitude (till we adopted him now hes a little shit). still havent made it to japan (still havent graduated) but i will (hopefuly) be graduating this December. i will be able to let you know closer to the date whether or not i will be able to come by in october, since its my thesis semester its gonna be really really busy all semester long. Richard is doing well, he got a full ride to go to ACC and get an associates in game design so hes happy where are yall two working at? and what are you kitties names?

HAHAHAHA!!! Tell me about cute kitties being less than cute later. We have two kitties. Clair is solid black with yellow eyes. She is a bully and will break things that are in her way. But she is also the most cuddly and demands to be picked up. The other day she fell asleep in my arms like one would hold a human child. It was adorable. The other kitty is Millie, a siamese mix with blue eyes. She is prissy and tries to be delecate but had the gracy of a one legged camel. Clair and Milly absolutely love each other and will cry if seperated. As far a jobs, Cara and I are both doing billing for different companies. It is weird having a career that has nothing to do with your degree. It is a big WTF toward everything the academic world ever told you.
