Hello! Thanks for the invitation and your kind words. I clicked the link, found myself in the chatroom, saw some links about the chat rules and post formatting.... and after reading through several of these pages returned to the first tab, only to realize that I had been signed out and a bunch of my pics had been posted. I'm too slow Anyway.. yes, I was aware of the existence of the chat, just haven't used it before due to my limited and somewhat irregular online times. I'll probably give it another go at some point but chances that I'll become a regular visitor are slim tbh.

Wow, love what I see here. I'm so shocked this is vector and can't fathom how you do it. Would love to see a tutorial or something one day.

Hehehe, "how I do it" is through a lot of repetition and hours spent with the pen, node and gradient tools. And that's the reason why I haven't done a real tutorial yet. People have asked me to do one and I'd love to. I just can't think of a good way of doing it though because... what's there to say about these tools? Click, click, click create shapes, bend path segments, shove nodes around, apply gradients, shove gradient handles around - rinse and repeat for hours. BUT I won't give up on this subject. One day I shall come up with something useful... hopefully
Aaanyway, thanks for the comment!

Hey NP! Perhaps just a video (in real time) of you creating a piece. Then those interested can just watch how you do it.

Hmm, you're not the first to say so but I don't know... I usually work several days on any single drawing, with several hours a day (I'm incredibly slow...) Inbetween I randomly jump to other applications, games, movies, etc. Thus, realtime would be way too long, timelapse on the other hand would require a lot of editing. I haven't recorded a single video to date and to be honest, I don't think I will anytime soon. If/when I do a tutorial it's likely gonna be in text+image form.

Hi! I love the work I found here.
I also found that you even posted a link to your tutorials.
The only one I checked so far was "Pretty Cute", and I found it helpful since it was character art, and similar to a practice with the line art and the gradients.
I still am curious about the shading.
You had a layer at 50% Opacity/transparency on multiply
And a second layer on shadow
Then had a layer for lighting. The lighting looked like maybe 50% opacity/transparency too.
Did you use black for the shading and white for the lighting?

Hey! I guess calling these things "tutorials" is a bit much; examples or rough overviews more like. Anyway...
I don't recall exactly because the image you mentioned was several years ago. I think what I did back then was using two separate layers for shadows, the only difference between those being that I used a different shading color. One a warmer tone, some brown or something and one darker/colder blue-ish. So no, I don't use black. I rarely use pure black at all. I just don't like it because you can't really add any shading on top of it because, well, it's the darkest possible color there is. As for lighting, that depends. For very prominent highlights I use white, for subtler lighting I use gradients, usually white-to-transparent or some light yellow-to-transparent.
My overall method has changed a bit in recent years. Now I'm no longer using one single layer for flat colors, shading, lighting, etc but divide the image into certain parts (e.g. head, torso, limbs, clothes, bg1, bg2, etc), each of which then gets their own base color, shadow, lighting sub-layers. I'm often using incomplete or no line-work at all. And I use the base color layers to clip the other layers belonging to the same group. This way I don't have to waste a lot of time making sure the shading doesn't go past the area it's supposed to cover. Sounds more complicated than it actually is.

I read some of the other comments, most of which were a bit more direct or aggressive than my own. Maybe that caused her reaction..? Not saying that it was a nice move but.. ah well.. I guess besides some heated words being exchanged, no real harm was done. Case closed. Thanks again : )
