I am only an architect student now. If you have enough fantasy you could make better building than mine. Fortunately I have lot of experiences in construction plan making. I have been working for an architect firm for six years.

You could be "Cad drawer" besides school if you have a good sense of CAD program, like Revit, AutoCad or ArchiCad. This type of job is really simple and suitable for starter architect or archi student.
I mainly work as a "CAD monkey". It is means mainly Cad drawer job, view plan designer job and a little architecture work for me.
But in my case ,during the school times I quit from the workplace and do the university in 100%.

It is really simply.
You can save 3ds file in AC and the AC can import 3ds object too.
The rest is just handicraft...

I use AC and 3DS to design, I use AC for the layouts (section, floorplans...) and I use V-ray for the renders.
Finally I use PS to creat a final pictures and proposals.

First you have to create some main guideline and then you have to organise everything around them.
For example on the rock school: awareness, contrast, economy.
For example on the glass house: simplicity, nature, economy.
Economy is mean that one or two function in one building.
After you have to creat the best function sketch with lot of brainwork.
Finally the form, the model give itself. Shortly it is my way.

Moreover I like these abstract forms which does not similar to anything on the other hand which similar to everything.
Of course during the planning I have uncomfortable feeling but with lot of brain work you can solve every problem and the final result can smoothes your nerves.
And then you will get lot of kind and encouraging comments like yours.
