Why thank you!Β
Btw, I'm Melissa, I just friended you on fb, and then bugged you about WED clay... Just ordered 50 lbs of the stuff and I hoping to start my next silicone mask soon

Oh sweet lol! Lemme know what silicone you plan on using, I have some good inhibiting prevention tips.

Probably going with eco-flex 00-30. I had a good experience with it last time. But I'm always open to suggestions!
π: 0 β©: 1
Shyailu In reply to FeralWorks [2014-06-03 17:22:19 +0000 UTC]
Love me some Eco-flex 30! If I have a really thin mask though I make sure to embed a 4 way stretch mesh into it. Else I move up to Eco 50. We sometimes run foam latex and latex in our molds so we have to be careful about inhibition. If that's not something you do in your molds it should cure no problem :3 Β Though a little post curing in the oven is always good no matter what you're running. Β Β

FeralWorks In reply to Shyailu [2014-06-04 13:08:14 +0000 UTC]
Is there anything you recommend for 4-way mesh? I didn't do that on my last mask and it tore around the mouth (luckily it was after the big event I wore it for, but still).
I have yet to actually work with foam latex, though I'm hoping to try it sometime this year. I'm really trying to step up my mask making and special effects this year. It's something I've always wanted to do and I'm just going for it.
I really appreciate all the advice!

I use powermesh from joann's it's over by the swimsuit material. I sew a whole headpiece over the core and use hot glue π: 0 β©: 1
FeralWorks In reply to Shyailu [2014-06-04 20:46:35 +0000 UTC]
That's an awesome idea. I noticed that most of the other "big" mask makers (like CFX, etc) just seemed to put it around the eyes/mouth, but I really like the idea of having it all over the head. I'm sort of clumsy, so I like to have extra measures in place. I was going to try repairing my other mask, but honestly, it was such a learning piece that it's not really worth it.Β
Also, good to know about the shinetsu caulking as a painting method. Last time I used sig-pig/psycho paint thinned with naptha, which was ok, but I like to know my options!
π: 0 β©: 1
Shyailu In reply to FeralWorks [2014-06-04 21:14:54 +0000 UTC]
Option are always nice :3. I tend to like mixing my own paints so I use the silc pig sample pack, shinetsu and coleman fuel, maybe some cabo sil to matte it out if I need to, tends to save on money too. I have used Fuse fx to pigment my base though, they have some really nice flesh tones.

*Furiously scribbling notes* Thanks!
I've heard of the Fuse FX pigments but the other combos are new to me. Seriously appreciating all this information. Now if I can just get my act together and actually start the sculpt, lol.

Seems I was lucky to get to comment when I did asking questions. I just wanted to stop in and tell you that I still love every inch of your gallery and really adore the new sculpts you've posted!
The Otachi is flippin gorgeous! So many details!
The three eyed raven is beautiful as well. I love that you finished it in a more dream-like interpretation than what one might think of as standard for a raven's colors. Keep up the stellar work!Β
-as a side note, do you happen to have a Tumblr account or other similar blog for sculpt wip's that I could watch?

FeralWorks In reply to Spyn0ff [2014-03-22 22:33:14 +0000 UTC]
Sorry about that. Most of the comments I was getting were positive or friendly, but I was getting a rash of comments that were just obnoxious and mean-spirited... Β That's why I disabled them. Yes, I do have a tumblr:
feralworks.tumblr.com
and I also have a facebook where I post progress pics:

Thanks for asking and for the kind words!

It's a really good tutorial! I probably won't get to it anytime soon, though I'll be sure to message you if I ever make one. I did link it on my Tumblr (with links back to you, of course), so hopefully you'll see some samples turning up soon!

Thanks! On both counts. ^_^ Last time someone posted it on Tumblr they didn't tell me about it and I was super confused about its sudden popularity until I finally asked someone where they found it.
