Hi there old friend!  After reading the final chapter of Naruto on Wednesday, I was reminded of the Naruto-as-Hokage head on the mountain you once drew for me.  So I wondered how you were doing!  

I don't really visit DA anymore, no.  I haven't drawn seriously in years.  I doodle here and there, mostly for the entertainment of friends and their kids, but I write about art more than I draw now.  I'm attending graduate school (finally) for a masters in art history and I'm getting experience working for museums, which I love doing.  That's probably going to be my career now, but I definitely have all the admiration in the world for artists who remain passionate in creating gorgeous and original artwork.  I wish all the time that I had been that eager, but I just could never keep it up.  As Chuck Close said, you can't wait for inspiration to strike.  You have to draw every day, bad or good.  And to do that I think you really have to love doing what you do.

I'm so happy to hear you again, and that you still remember that visual poetry I dedicated to you years ago! 

I read Naruto final chapter, too, but I don't really like how the series was handled in the last few years, to be honest. I'm still into the fandom, though.  ^^
Working for museums is really cool, too--congratulation! Not all art careers must be about creating, after all. 

I still draw and especially make crafts on commission, and also write (not original stuff, though, for now at least) these days; sometimes I also do extra jobs related to videogames as translations and stuff, but they hard to get.

Are you reading new/other manga, now that Naruto has ended?

I still occasionally keep up with historical fiction manga now such as Cesare, Historie and Vinland Saga.  I still read Berserk and Bleach.  I'm not sure that I will ever love manga and anime again the way I did in the 2000s, though... I think that was a very special time for the medium.

I do agree that the last two years of Naruto weren't written very well, so I'm glad it ended (and I did like the ending).  I still enjoyed the ride a lot, though.  I never expected, for instance, to "get to know" Hashirama and Toshirama and Minato so well.  Each Hokage had such fun personality traits that it really made them all even more memorable to me.  And I can certainly understand why Madara was so feared.  

I still like to dabble in drawing, but I definitely like to "analyze" art.  Reviewing so many chapters of Naruto helped me realize this, actually.  So one day I realized museums were probably what I wanted to do, and once I understood that, I was able to apply to graduate school with renewed confidence.  My second semester, I was recommended to my university museum as a graduate assistant.  I enjoyed doing it so much that there was no longer any more doubt in my mind: it was what I was meant to do.  I just wish it had not taken me thirty years to finally realize it, but better late than never!

Maybe I will do a show of your art one day!    Also, are you excited about the new Zelda game?  I am probably going to finally buy a Nintendo console again because of that game, it looks amazing.

I read Cesare, too, and I'm loving it! When Michelangelo appeared I squealed like a silly fangirl, since he's my most favourite artist ever.    All the historical and cultural stuff in that manga is quite interesting, but that's a given.  ^^
About Berserk, I'm not enjoying it as much as before, lately. It seems like Miura is now more about drawing than actually telling a story; the plot is still there, but it's way too watered down so not much actually happens in a volume. Concerning Bleach, I never read the manga but I watched the anime up to the end of the Aizen saga; I didn't like its ending so I dropped it, but I would like to see the rest of the anime when the manga ending will be animated, too.

By the way, you should totally read One Piece. And please stay away from my deviations about it (and from my faves), since they're full of spoilers!
I could write for hours to explain why I highly commend it, but for now I'll just say that its author, Oda, in the latest flashback managed to make practically the whole fandom fall in love with a character who only appeared for less than ten chapters. It's incredible, really, and unlike Naruto it keeps getting better, since each new arc adds on the previous ones, in retrospective.

Naruto, instead, started really good but declined gradually; I still liked most of its characters, though. What I stopped liking was the general plot/screenplay. The last thing I remember actually liking about it was Hashirama and Madara's flashback, but I liked it by itself, not in the context it was used. In my opinion, the whole ninja war was poorly written and uninspired. 
Ah, I liked Gai's moment of glory, too--but again, it could have been used within a much better scenario. Furthermore, the main theme of the manga became repetitive around half of the post time-ship timeline, imho, and the narration lost sincerity and spontaneity in some other points, or so I perceived it, at least.


I just consider myself an artisan, so for you to do a show about my art I should make actual (and original) art first, but thank you!  ^^

My husband bought a Wii U at launch, so I'll definitely get the next Zelda...I'm so in love with its art style and amazing animation that, when I first saw the trailer, I started jumping around the room as a little girl. XD  I couldn't believe Aonuma's team was doing it like that, since it was like they read my mind; I wanted another cell-shaded Zelda game with a teen Link (around 15 years old, as he seems to be in the new game), in anime style, and with sci-fi elements...and it turned out to be exactly like that!    Now, I just hope we'll be able to play with that awesome blue outfit, too, instead than just the regular green one.
If you'll get Mario Kart 8 and Smash Brothers let me know and we'll exchange friend codes.    By the way, we have a 3DS too, so I'll get the Majora's Mask remake, too!
