no problem at all -- I had another look at your gallery, and your pictures have a kind of vintage feel about them which is amazing. i wish i lived near somewhere with so many old neon signs

and my olympus is probably my favourite camera ever, i show it blatant favouritism. how do you like the OM-2?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FloydLunatic In reply to crazygirl131 [2008-01-16 17:28:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the compliments... I love doing the whole vintage tonality thing... Especially with Route 66 so close, it makes for some cool shots. But, I was looking through your gallery, and Oklahoma is nothing compared to Tokyo, New Delhi, etc., haha. That must be really cool, being able to go to places like that.

And I absolutely love my OM-2. It's the camera that got me into photography. I pulled it out of my dad's closet a while back and used it to teach myself about apertures, lenses, film, all that. Olympus made some great stuff... I think I have three of their cameras right now, actually. The OM, an XA (this little pocket camera with a reaaallly sharp lens on it, I suggest checking it out ), and a Chrome Six medium format folding camera. The meter on my OM just died recently though... so I've just been going without one for C41 and black and white films and not shooting too many slides. Is your OM-1 doing fine? I have a friend who has one, but the meter is seriously weird.

I do love travelling, but I think definitely my best photos are the ones I take at home just messing around with friends plus I think some of the places in your photos have a real old romanticism in them that you can't get as just a tourist wandering around a new place.

my OM-1 is pretty healthy all things considered - it was my Dad's and it broke years back, but I rescued it and fixed it a few weeks ago and have refused to let it out of my sight since. I've never had a camera that was completely manual, so it's been quite the learning experience -- luckily the light meter still works fine (what a miracle) so progress is being made! It's the first Olympus I've used, up until now I was strictly a Canon/polaroid/Holga kind of girl. what's the XA like? also, do you develop your own film?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FloydLunatic In reply to crazygirl131 [2008-01-17 18:48:18 +0000 UTC]

That's good that you were able to rescue it... I've seen too many cameras like that that are impossible to fix.

The XA is really cool. It's got this super-sharp 35mm f/2.8 Zuiko on it, sort of like the one you can buy for the OM system, but reversed. It kiiiiinda vignettes in the corners a bit, but I think that just adds to the look of it. It's entirely aperture-priority, so the only thing you really have to worry about is f-stops. I wish it were more manual, but oh well. Regardless, it's only about four inches wide and an inch deep, so I take it with me pretty much wherever I go.

And yeah, I develop my own black and white film (and prints when I'm at school). When I'm at home, I just use my closet to load the film onto the reels in the dark, and then I develop it in my laundry room. I've always wanted to do color film, but the chemicals are kinda expensive (and have to be used at a really precise temperature).

crazygirl131 In reply to FloydLunatic [2008-01-18 19:28:05 +0000 UTC]

I couldn't fix it myself, ended up taking it to this crazy swiss man who had it working in about two minutes. a lucky save! I am definitely going to keep my eyes out for an XA -- where did you get yours from? and I am a huge vignetting fan, so yay
i've never developed colour film either -- at school I do the Holga blackandwhites myself, but they never seem to come out quite right. my prints definitely need some work!

crap, that wasn't an edit. I actually said "portrayal of the show's mood at the sold out show". Wow. I was tired Tuesday, apparently.

My mother wants to meet you before we go to prom together...

If Kim hasn't already invited you this week, and if you have time, wanna make a stop by our church Sunday? You don't have to dress up or whatever. We don't.

Call me later if you can or can't.

I'll do my best to make it. What time does the service start?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Smetter In reply to FloydLunatic [2007-04-12 03:05:23 +0000 UTC]

Pick a time.. I'm usually in Sex, Drugs, and Politics class (AKA Sunday School) mostly for the free doughnuts and bagels at 9:45 or so.. But if you're like Kim, you can get there at 10:45 when service starts. We sit up in the balcony and literally do nothing for an hour.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FloydLunatic In reply to Smetter [2007-04-12 03:07:05 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if I can do the 9:45 thing, haha. Chances are, Saturday will be a late night. I'll try to get to the 10:45, if that's okay with you?
