it's called 'crystal outbreak' and its based around this disease that a few of my friends and i made
basically, back when the war happened, the humans accidentally created this disease when they banished the monsters to the underground
it caused these life draining crystals to form on those who were infected, and they spread faster as the monster's hp got lower
somehow, chara ended up getting it, and was banished to the underground
asriel was the first monster who died from it

every single monster has it, but alphys created a cure that stopped it from draining hp. she couldn't get rid of the crystals, though, so they're still on the monsters
so basically all the fallen humans are humans who got the disease and were quatintened

theres more to it than that but im lazy-
