Hiya, my name is Gaia . I am an 80's child and I have been focusing on drawing portraits over the the last year.
I am a self taught pencil portrait artist and I used to work with digital art and copic markers. However, while I was studying, I had to keep art on the back burner. This gave me the time to miss art and when I finally had the time to do art again, I gained a new attraction to pencil portraits.
I mainly pick high quality photos of celebrities to work from as they provide the amount of detail that I like to work with, such as the texture of the skin and details of hair. As you will see from my gallery, I sometimes like to dabble in working with paints, such as watercolours and acrylics. It is nice to work with colour every now and then, but I think I gain more pleasure from doing pencil portraits as they can be very intricate and I get to push myself each time.
I like a good challenge. :)

Do you always use reference for your drawings? Are some details made up?

Depending on the quality of the photo, I may have to make up some details but most of the time I try to follow the details of the reference photo to make sure it looks realistic. It all depends on the photo really.

On a whim I decided to visit your gallery and I have to say that I was astonished by the accuracy of your portraits. I normally would have cried wolf and said you were a faker because they look TOO real, and then I saw your video link to the most recent one. It left me speechless the entire time.
I need to learn from you.
