# About me

Over the past seven years I’ve used a variety of gear ranging from ancient Roliflexes and plastic Holgas to High-end DSLRs. I try to keep all my options open and experiment with new ideas whenever I can. I believe my passion for photography comes from its unique combination of technical challenges and craft as well as the visual impact of a photograph. My first experience with the medium was in a high-school darkroom; I then worked my way through several digital cameras, looking to push what was possible with the exposures and optics I had.

I have an interest in design which I think plays an important role in both how and what I shoot. My most frequent choice of subject matter is architecture and still life with an approach similar to the principles used in design (line, shape, form…). I find automotive design and aviation to be fascinating fields which I explore through my photography whenever I am given the rare opportunity to do so. Currently I am studying a Bachelor of Arts in Photography at RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia) which is giving me the opportunity to increase my skills and push my capabilities in commercial/client based situations. Eventually I plan to make a full-time career from my work as a Commercial Advertising Photographer.

Hey Geoff thanks also for the watch. very much appreciated. congrats on the d700 best of luck with O-Week. Good to see your getting stuck into basic photographic materials and processes you'll be thanking yourself once you begin the semester and it will be basically revision. How's it all going? feeling ready?

Hey. Yeah I'm defiantly looking forward it! will also be nice to work in a studio space larger than my desk

After flicking through the Basic Photographic Materials book I can see why you gave me the heads up and I am now somewhat glad I studied physics last year so thanks again for the suggestion to start reading it now.

Having done physics will make your life a whole lot easier most of the people doing he course from my year hadn't taken any science subjects are were complete arts students so it freaked them out a bit but Greg your lecturer for processes goes pretty easy on you.

A good thing to get into your head right now is the full stop increments for your exposure calculations once you've got them memorized (or how the sequence progesses) it's easy. but it's one of those things that was on every single test we did last year.

hi
thankyou for the comments. Your gallery is beautiful! do you use a macro lens?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeoffHarrison In reply to Vibeviant [2008-04-27 11:17:26 +0000 UTC]

It's my pleasure and thank you very much.

I don't use any dedicated macro lenses, I've experimented a little with improvised macro lenses though. What kind of camera are you using yourself?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vibeviant In reply to GeoffHarrison [2008-04-27 12:39:28 +0000 UTC]

i use Samsung GX1L, this was the cheapest SLR i could find, ive been looking for a macro lens but there doesn’t seem to be any around that are suitable for my camera!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeoffHarrison In reply to Vibeviant [2008-04-28 12:17:12 +0000 UTC]

Looks like quite a good camera, especially for the price. I've yet to get my hands on my own DSLR.

If you've got two lenses, you can mount them face to face (so the filter threads are touching). Thats my 'on the cheap' macro lens you get some pretty decent results too.

You're welcome, your style is very appealing to me. I like nature and photography and historically that is where my work has been focussed (back when I used to play with my Contax 35mm).
Now that I have my new 400D I am begining to appreciate the power of black and white photography and your work demonstrates that power perfectly.
