That's a big topic to give advice on- do you know anything about the computer game you'd like to add him to?
You'll want to look up colour palettes for pixel art (I heartily recommend the dawnbringer 32 palette to use in game art- it's so versatile and really brings unity to the entire project), and also stuff about sprite sheets if you're wanting to animate.
There's loads of great tutorials out there to become a pixel artist- just have a hunt around (especially dithering as that can be tricky to do well) and have a go. Love pixel art because I find it so much easier to get right than full on digital painting.
Make sure you post some stuff- if you tag me in it I can give you some friendly critique on how to improve!
