No problem Dominika !

I was tagged in a 'Game of Thrones / The Hobbit fan art'Β  journal a while back and saw your drawing of Thranduil amongst mine of Jaqen H'ghar (Game of Thrones) and really liked it.
You have a very beautiful gallery of drawings. I really like the amount of detail you put into your work. Well done. Have a nice day!

Hi.

I'm sort of taking a break from digital art for a while (we'll see how long that lasts!) I'm concentrating more on learning motion graphics. I may post more digital art in the mean time. How about yourself?

Yeah I spend longer than most people would have the patience to on a painting. Might as well. It's not like I'm against the clock or anything. Better to spend time perfecting it than rushing it.

You have a wonderful way with coloring! How do you make the textures so realistic?
you've just earned another watcher ^^

Hax09 In reply to Vyndicare [2014-03-20 21:14:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Annie. Really appreciate that!

It's just years of practice I guess. I really like to zoom in and make each part as realistic as possible. Sometimes you'd be surprised at how effective a regular black or white brush can be. Like when I try to make a metallic piece look shiny using a full 100% white brush really brings out the shine to the extreme. Obviously you have to pick and choose your spots. But something like a few streaks make it pop. I used to only use the regular hard brush for the whole painting but lately I've been working with a chalk brush. There are some very good brushes out there that speed up the texturing process. Not to mention textures themselves that can be overlayed. Although I've never done that last one because I find the whole colour matching process tedious. And I have a tendency to get it wrong too.

Vyndicare In reply to Hax09 [2014-03-20 23:40:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh it's no problem at all. ^^

Really now? Thanks for the tip on metallic objects. I've always had a sort of trouble making something look metallic. Rough fabric textures are no exception either. I'm starting to get skin pores down, though. But I'd really like to learn how to make something have rough textures so that it's more realistic. I mean I've never been taught how to do anything digitally. I learn on my own or from tutorials or other artists. It's helped out a lot. But I'd really love to learn how to properly texturize ^^ I mean I looked at your Assassin's Creed work and did a double take thinking it was a screen shot or poster from the actual game. It looks so real! It's amazing! I looked at the WIPs and I was blown away. It's amazing how detailed you make your drawings. How long does it take you?
(Love the Metal Gear as well )

Thanks!

It usually takes me about a few weeks (mainly because of work and other commitments) I think you picked a good example with the Assassin's Creed one because that has to be my most realistic drawing to date. I think in the end it looked more detailed (especially Ezio's rough face) than the original. I actually find it more easier to do detailed painting rather than ones that require smooth textures. I think with the smooth ones it's easier for it to look unrealistic. But with the rough ones there's no set rule. A good way to put it would be the difference between a silk cloth and a rough face with cuts. The cuts can be anywhere on the face, any shape and any size. Deep cuts or maybe just a scratch. But with a smooth texture it can only be smooth and anything out of the ordinary would break that illusion. I think it's good to experiment as much as you can. My technique is like a collection of 5 different methods I've learned over time.

You're welcome ^^

My work usually takes me that long as well XD mainly because I get pretty indecisive about how I want things to look.
But anyway, thank you for the advice. It's helpful it's always good to learn new techniques

Hey I know everything there is to know about being indecisive. I have like 5 paintings that have been left there never to be touched again. And at least 10 more locked in my head never to be started.

Oh brilliant!

It's actually been a while since I finished it. In fact I let my sister and brother borrow it and they've finished it as well. I might read it again some day. It is an interesting story. Especially if you have some knowledge of Assassin's Creed and the whole history behind that. I kind of see some characters from the book taking the form of Assassin's Creed characters.
