I think their relationship is what really makes it special. He has such a hard time with her hordes of admirers, but loves her with all his heart, and she's got the whole "tough girl" attitude except she turns into a pile of mush around him.

I liked it considerably more back when it first came out, and then it got increasingly complicated. I still like going back and reading through it - I have the first eight books or so and then it's interspersed between the next few. I think I stopped buying after Alfeegi died. I was heartbroken.
Dragon Knights would have made a stellar anime what with all the loops and turns and hidden hints, but as a manga, it was just a little confusing at times.
