Trying to learn to draw anything. I never considered myself an artist and I never thought I would ever attempt drawing...
I would like to learn to draw the Sonic characters better in case I ever would like to draw some art for a possible story. Most of them, when I actually color, take around 3 hours to complete which, I am assuming, is overkill. Just taking one step at a time.
If you have any pointers, I'll listen, mate. And thanks for the offer.

About coloring.... it normally takes pretty long to color stuff. It shouldn't take very long to color just a character unless you're shading, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Your technique might simply be lacking. You generally want to color in the same direction at all times, either from side to side or up and down. Possibly filling in crevices and corners first as to make it easier on yourself.
You also want to get rid of that canvassy paper. Canvas and color pencils do NOT mix, and you wind up with a product that looks like it was colored in with crayon.
Something you might want to invest time in, regardless of how this sounds, is tracing. When I first started teaching people how to draw, I told them to trace a specific picture about 20 times. The vast majority of them gave up on it, thinking the task was beneath them, and/or they were just fucking lazy. Thankfully though, I have found that many art teachers agree with my idea (as I thought it up on my own, and had doubts because I didn't research it). Tracing reinforces your line control while simultaneously adding to your memory that which you were tracing. So by the time you get to the point where you have to draw it without reference, it's already there.
I'd say give tracing a shot. Dont' just mindlessly trace though, try your best to make it look as good as possible while employing the technique.

In tracing, do you mean placing a paper over a picture and just trying to trace it the image?
Yes, when it comes to coloring I have no pattern, and I have the same issue at drawing too. I will draw or color at one spot until I get tired or weary of it, then I start at another spot. I guess consistency is needed.
Paper wise, I usually use printing paper for most of my drawing, but the one I just posted I did in my small drawing book. I am on a budget, and I have a ton of printing paper. At this point, I am interested more in just being able to draw right instead of making a masterpiece. I may give your tracing idea a try (20 times...hmmm). Thanks for the advice.

Of course. I also mean tracing in every meaning of the word. You can trace over pictures digitially to, by lowering the opacity on the reference layer.

Though small, your love for Sonic SatAM shine through in this gallery. Keep up the good work, man. Speaking of Sonic SatAM, I think you might be interested in my current project which is a custom Sally Acorn 3D model that unlike most model out there, is highly influence by earlier comic design such as Spaz, Jay Axer and the likes as well as some of my favorite fan art (such as CCN, the glitcher Sallyhot ect). Atm, the whole model sculpt is nearly 100% complete but i'm experimenting with texture and also, i'm a bit uncertain about how the hair came out so i'm reworking on that as well.

When I saw your model, I was thinking right away of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Are you aware of the hacks people have made with SSBB? I have participated in it a little, and I am surprised with all the 3d models people come up with. I have the only one of Sally Acorn from Brawlvault, and I would love to create a custom moveset for her for other gamers to enjoy. I couldn't help but realize that your model would probably look good in the game. What is your purpose in creating the 3d model?

Funny you mention SSBB, it is actually the original purpose of MySallymodel. Hopefully, when i'll be done with the model, it will be possible to port it to Brawl or maybe even Smash 4 (i kind of got carried away with the sculpting at time). I'd also love to have it for XPS/Xnalara (a posing application), Garry mod, Source Film Maker, MMD and finally a direct public release. Btw, yes i'm involved in the SSBB community and knows how awesome the mod are. I've written the movelists for Kagemaru's Ryu, Chun-Li and Juri PSA mods. I not as involved to the Smash modding community these days, but i would really love to see a Sally Acorn PSA !

I have gotten a hold of a Sally mod over Fox earlier this year, and I plan on trying to make a psa moveset so she can be her own playable character.

I am new to modding, so I never worked on texture like you are doing, but I have messed with brawlbox and smash attacks enough to change Sonic's movesets. I would love to make a psa for Sonic that matches more of his fighting style in his games and franchise, and I would also love to use the Sally mod to give Sal her own moveset. I would like to somehow pick up voice clips from Satam to use for her, but one step at atime.

Demon_of_ Elru and I have "work together" in the past, I provide to him the concept art for his Juri Han model as back then i didn't know how to sculpt 3D models. I'm a big fan of his work and i've seen his Sally model. Heck, he's has a DA account under the name Shin-Kitaro and has (or had) a Sally V.2.0 planned for brawl: shin-kitaro.deviantart.com/art…
As for the movelist i'm kind of busy at the moment but if you want we could work on it together. i don't have the whole thing planned but i have a few basic ideas for it !

I am probably going to work on a psa for Sal no matter what; however, I don't mind working along with you on ideas and concepts. I can start working on some practice movesets and show it to you sometime. I'm still new to this, so I don't know if I can work with the B moveset as far as changing articles or objects. What I can do at this time is work with the basic and areil attacks. I find it easier to use the motionetc.pac file of existing brawl fighters as a base to work on similar animations, but I am also experimenting at creating my own animations. Give me a set time, and I may be able to show you a psa moveset for basic attacks and animations.
