Actually, in my opinion, Peter Jackson did one helluva good job considering the monumental task he set out to achieve. He didn't perfectly capture the books, true, but that would be nearly impossible. J. R. R. Tolkein even said that his books couldn't be made into a movie, and while Jackson didn't do it perfectly, he did it well.

He also tossed out almost the entire ending of the book. . .and skipped one of, what I think could possibly be, the best parts in doing so. . .I dont know details of why or wherefore, but I didnt think the movies were that great. . .

There are more things skipped that I think should have been left in, but this is the biggest. . .I know they had to leave some things out in order for it to fit, but this is like ending Romeo and Juliet with both still alive. . .
