I have read your replies to my comment on the poem about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I would just like to say that I love my country, the USA, and I'm sorry for any misconceptions you may have gotten about me from my comment. Truthfully, I cannot remember what I wrote, but I do remember I was feeling quite passionate having just done a report on the topic, and very well may have ran my mouth a bit too much. I must agree with you that what the Japanese soldiers did to our POWS was also brutal, harsh, and terrible, as well as what they even did to their own civilians because of their "no surrender" policy. I must, however, disagree that the bombings were necessary. I had found in my research into valid sources that our president believed the Japanese would surrender once Russia was able to commit it's forces on that front after Germany fell. We dropped the bombs just days before Russia was slated to enter. Still, it is an event in the past that cannot be changed, as is the war as a whole. But it must be remembered, hopefully so something so terrible as that war never has to happen again.

Again, I'm sorry for any misconceptions about me you attained from my comment, and though we may still hold different opinions, I hope this brings us to an affective truce. Also, I noticed you are quite new to DA, and would like to extend to you my whole hearted welcome to this community. Thank you for your patience.

Surly you don't mean that, especially since the majority of people who died there were civilians. Children, friends, brothers, wives... And it wasn't just Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were other bombings before the atomic bombs, fire bombings of almost every major city of Japan, killing millions of innocents. I just... Can't see how it can be justified...

I have a link to an informational site, if you so choose to read it.

Well, with that logic the only way for there to be absolutely no threat to peace is for humanity to not exist...

Heh, there may be some truth to that... It seems it would be impossible for mankind to be at peace, at least for very long. We will always find new reasons to fight. Or, perhaps, stick to the old reasons: power, land, wealth, freedom, it's all still sought. It may be how the world is, but it doesn’t make it right. It's like Machiavelli’s book The Prince. Unlike Plato's Republic, which told you what the perfect society and government would be, The Prince told you how government is.

So as a citizen of the USA your saying you are not innocent in this whole ordeal our country is going throuh now? You can't assume that every one wanted war. I'm sure many of those people who died in the bomings wanted nothing to do with the war.
