# About me
My name is Rhiannon, though most people I know online know me as Amo. I'm an aspiring artist looking for a window into commission work and steadily working to improve my skills between work and vidya games. I'm very shy and bad at talking to people I don't know. Mulling over what to post as a reply or comment sometimes takes me so long I forget to actually post it. GG.I consider myself an avid gamer, albeit a mediocre one. I love fantasy settings and have a love/hate relationship with competitive games like league of legends. League is very good at showing me how terrible I am at managing stress. :D I also really like to have an mmo I can call my "home" game, so to speak. PvE is my preferred endgame with casual pvp and rp if I'm feeling crazy on the side.
Other than all that, I live in the US with a boyfriend in Sweden effectively converting me into a hardcore Sweaboo. So there is that. Hi Joakim. (He's not reading this.)
Something something conclusion.

I learneded! Well, Rydain taught me. Honestly, they've been there for uh⦠years? Something? And I've never known what they were or how to give them to people, then last night, llamas for everyone!!

I had a vague idea, but I never knew what they were for. o_o I guess they're just a "hi I visited your page" thing? ..I didn't know they upgraded though. xD

At least you had a vague idea! I didn't know much about them at all!
I've been on dA for a long time, but I lost a lot of interest many years ago as "real life" became more demanding. I didn't even notice when the llamas were announced, and I didn't pay attention to them when they turned up in messages because I didn't know what they were!

Oh my, you've been a busy lady all over my profile! I want to reply to all of the things but all the time disappeared out of today and there's so many and wow I don't evenβ¦!
I also need to poke around YOUR gallery some more, but I like your two recent realistic pieces a lot, especially the lighting in bothβyou have a great grasp of tone.

.. I might have gotten a bit carried away, yeah. xD Haven't been on much lately, mostly because sudden working tablet, so many pent up ideas, so little time. x_X It was genuine though though, I really do love your work!
Also, thank you! I've got a ways to go with it, but I was browsing a lot of realistic pictures and picking up some techniques from other artists to give a go after my tablet broke. I do love my markers, but I'm missing so many subtle colors now - and a lot of them are drying out x.x The extra ink is rather expensive too, sobleh. Not to mention the discoloration flash causes and the likely less-than-optimal paper. Got very tired of all of it.

D'aww, thank you! Unfortunately I don't think I will get to reply to them all, but I'll agree to try to reply to things from this point onwards.
I know what you mean about markers, and it's something I'm only just getting into⦠I find I need to use both markers and coloured pencils to bring out more subtle shading and tones. As for discolouration, that'd be one of the reasons I started doing so much digital stuff in the first place⦠that and I'm not going through so many drawing materials!
With the flash, I recommend finding the best neutral lighting you can instead. I turn my flash off, but even photos taken inside have a nasty tungsten look, so I go to my back room where I get a lot of light from outside. Unless I have to show someone something RIGHT NOW o.o

I know what you mean about the subtle shading and tones. I use to use colored pencils that way as well. ..Not exactly sure why I stopped. I've never been big with them though. Seems almost like they need something opaque under it.
I could afford to take more pictures outside. o_o I do have a bad tendency to want to take pictures at night though, think that's why I usually just use flash. I'll try to keep that in mind next I upload something traditional though.

ChibiTaryn In reply to JinelleA [2012-08-28 22:54:20 +0000 UTC]
One way I like to do the Copic/pencil combination is by drawing/inking and then putting down all the Copic shading first. That gives it the bold, opaque, solid colours I'm looking for.
Once that's done, I'll go over bits and pieces with coloured pencils - fix up things I didn't quite have the right Copic colours for or couldn't do specific details well with, or whatever. Then because the pencils leave waxy residue over my ink I tend to go over parts of the ink again. At least, that's how I did this drawing of Chell: [link]
Also, with photos, if you have to take photos inside at night it may be worth (if you can) setting up your camera on a tripod or other stable surface, disabling the flash, and slowing the shutter speed so you get a longer exposure instead. That'll get more light in and hopefully give you a more natural picture of the picture. How you do that I'm not sure though, you may need to look at your camera's manual. It will also be helpful to use the white balance settings because you'll get a "tungsten" (orangeish) tint from most light bulbs and most cameras are clever enough to automatically adjust for that.
Although even better again would be to try to get access to a scanner - there's an office supply place near my house that offers scanning, try one of those. There's also this great hefty beast of a photocopier at work that does scanning⦠work/school places often have things you can use.

Thanks for all the tips! I definitely want to give colored pencil/marker a go again. I need more ink for my markers though. It just seems like every marker I use is drying out and making horrid, smudgy marks at some point in a picture. x_x
I dunno if a digital camera would allow something like that. I could give it a go though. I doubt I still have the manual but I could look it up online. Thanks for the info! I'm sure there's a scanner at my school or something, but I don't really know where it is and I don't like getting up and looking for things. I have to carry -SO MUCH STUFF- 'cause I have two art classes. D: Really, it's insane. I don't have a car to put things in, so I spend all day carrying this portfolio that's like ..what, 18 x 24 inches? Something like that and a backpack. Smkldsnjvknaf.
Sowwi, just spent all day in school and I think my main mentality right now is "be tired and ramble incessantly."
The art classes are worth it though.

It'll depend on your digital camera, I guess. Some of them can also be firmware hacked to do advanced things, but even without the shutter and aperture settings pretty much all of them have white balance settings.
As for carrying stuff, blarg⦠they don't have a locker or something similar you can put things in? That sucks. Carrying stuff around all day is tiring⦠have played at that a few times before (once was on holiday, oh god).
And I don't mind the rambling⦠perfectly understandable when you're tired. I've been exhausted almost non-stop for the past two months (overwork) and I'm sure I've rambled at everyone by now.
