I believe songwriting (and poetry) should strike a balance, providing enough foundation to clearly communicate an emotion or idea, while still allowing the reader to "fill in the blanks" based on their own knowledge and experiences. It's a royal pain in the neck to get right, so I'm happy that--in this case at least--I managed to succeed.
