So I happen upon your art site and I was curious if you intend to make a social organization of Maya/Aztec/MesoAmerican group in the future?
Also maybe notes on if they are able to move their stations (promotions, granting aristocratic titles, marriages between classes, etc.) since Aztec has strict class-based fashion laws yet ,at least in their capital of Texcoco, both commoners and nobles are given public education and allow to serve as warriors with social mobility based on their prowess.

I do! Send a note with what you are thinking of and I can calculate a price. But it can range anywhere from $20-100+

Sized for computer screen is fine. I'm writing a military SF series, set about 13,000 years ago. The Empire of Chimorro, controlled by the Queshua, rule all of South, Central, and half of North America. The Caribbean is unified state called the Eastern Islands. The Eastern part of the US is run by The Seven Nations.

Link to map, here:

What I envision is a Nahua woman who is combat fighter pilot. Eyes that are large, and dark, appearing almost black. She's in what is similar to a HueCac, described below. The jeep has its doors removed. She's seated in the jeep, has aviator glasses resting above her eyes, wearing a sun dress, possibly in either Nahua or Mayan color or style. While the jeep is viewed sideways, she's looking out to the viewer. She wears combat boots with her sundress, with 2 large brass clamps to hold them on. A Willys jeep with a canvas canopy and rollbar would be close enough to model from.

Her military tats are under her dress. The military writing on the jeep would be a mix of Mayan and Queshuan, since the base where it takes place is TikΓΊn, and the Imperial government is Queshuan. Not much detail is needed on the HueCac.

I imagined the woman, Janetta Tlacotli, looks close to Michelle Rodriguez, but not exactly so. A dedicated warrior, Janetta is Heustican for "prickly pear," but again, she full Nahua. Tlacotli means servant in current times, but was a caste name for animal handler during the story's timeline.

My own skill is rather primitive, hence my reaching out.

My description of the HueCacs – Two-seat electric transports, HueCac is short for HuetziCactis, meaning "Two Doors." Roll-bars are standard, but are detachable for loading into aircraft. Models can have canvas or hard-top (with hard or canvas sides to the frame). All military models have a steel roll-bar; roll-bars are optional for civilian models. Huetzoos are HueCacs with a pick-style cargo bed. Like nearly all transportation, they are fully electric vehicles. More recent models use nano-enhanced paint to become auxiliary solar collectors.

I'm not committed to a distance shot; it could be closer, say from the shoulders up.

So, yes, I know Nahua were late arrivals, but I'm taking a lot of historical liberties. The shoreline in the map is what it was about 13,000 during the last glacial maximum.

Based on above, I'm thinking the $60-100 range, but you might say more. Probably more than what you want to know, but this might give you something to help with the scope of the work.

Ok, a $100 price sounds about right given the vehicle and all. Let me make some sketches and we can go from there. Do you have an email or something I can send these sketches and later your commission? You can paypal me half when the sketches are approved and the other half when it's done or if you want when it's complete I will show you the thumbnail and you can send the full amount then from where I can send you the full size.

i just love how you take the drawings from ancient historical/archaelogical sources and makes them into real, living, almost breathing people! one keeps wondering about the lives and relationships of the characters depicted on your works, much like one of those high quality illustrated handbooks/guides on old civilisations. stunning!

Been digging deeper into Mayan history and trying to learn more about my indigenous roots and it's hard to find modern artistic depictions, especially the way you put them together. This is especially true for El Salvador where my mother is from. Anyway, the unique vision and historical knowledge you bring to the table is awesome & inspiring. Just wanted to say thanks, really digging it!

Hey. Still am working on the story (as usual though this time I'm presenting it as a main focus for a novel writing class and so far my work shop group was impressed by the premise) and now other ideas have been coming in and still on a build. One is that Topiltzin's family (in lore one father three uncles personal addition three cousins) is nether good or evil but grey examples are that Mixcoatl may have been a great war leader he's a debauched drunk who would rather eat, drink and fuck male/female concubines and let corruption loose and the uncles more politically incline but the youngers are miysoganist, homophobes, and racists toward anyone not Toltec. Though Apanecatl the 2nd brother is stuck between supporting Mixcoatl and giving more appreciation toward the youngers. Another is that the Toltecs are gonna be in conflict with a rival Mayan empire with the Zapotecs helming the invasion by their side but I don't know on which Mayan city to go for that would have survived the cycle of nations and formed and empire and I know you made a Mayan empire in your comic but that story takes place during the contact era whereas mine takes place in the middle ages so any recommended mayan faction that would have faced strong against the Toltecs? In my timeline Teotihuacan lasted longer than it's real life expiration date so one problem I may have with it is what would be the reason for Tollan/Tula for being built when Mixcoatl has conquered the city. Theres also the handling of some of the more minor villains like bandits and corrupt nobility which I added them due to I hearing and reading about recent massacres caused by someone who was both a cartel lord and a governor so I felt to show enemies on both classes so advice on a subject like that?Β

All ready on type with my work of Quetzalcoatl, dubbed so far as "Passion of the Feathered Serpent", but as soon as I went on writing on the setting for the main heroine I got stopped by a stagnating realization: what setting am I trying to convey again? A Mexico populated by it's mythology and pre-conquest factions or something like Darren Aronofsky's Noah with Russel Crowe were it is the story but with a more fantastical setting not earth but a different world just with the same character. This also leads me in a situation like should I really use the real ethnic names for specific groups or make names up. I'm already taking liberties by having Topiltzin have his mother, Chiimalma, and his half bro Xolotl be with him on his journey, the grandfather having put him in a vow of celibacy and never having friends and family from his seed, combating monsters and invading armies, adding in northern cultures or make cultures based on them and having him take friends and lovers even if the myth says he had none of those. There is also the choice of the central writing for something like title and/or concept poster art like how Avatar:Last Airbender used Chinese writing for it's posters I'm now stuck on wether which writing system to use as a representation and which Topiltzin would write in ether the writing that Teotihuacan may have had or Mayan. Also Topiltzin's chosen weapons, such as a spear, bow and arrows, club-sword, will be made of jade to represent his divine status though I don't know how jade's strength is compared with obsidian and I just found the Purepechua may have used copper or bronze. There is also the addition of horses and camels due to I finding that those animals did exist in the americas but they were mostly eaten or could not survive the landscape climates of the times but adding them in because it's to make the traveling less painful and even though it is a stereotype in most imagery revolving around certain indigenous I just like images of indigenous on horses and camels especially heroines because beauty I mean Erenderia comes to mind and how do you think the Mesoamerican kingdoms would have used camels and horses in labor and war? Though I will admit the Maya would not use them much due to the climates of the area they live in and cavalry wether they are skirmishers or melee does not do well in forests and jungles I mean the mongols could not conquer Vietnam and the Spanish had a tough time with battling the northern maya even with cavalry and again plague and rivalry helped more for the Spanish. But yeah whats your take on my issue here?Β

Kamazotz In reply to GGAR778 [2015-11-13 21:34:54 +0000 UTC]

Originally my story was concieved on one 'inspired' by mesoamerica, in a totally fictional setting. But I wanted to include historical cameos, like easter eggs for history fans. And I like history in general so I went with the alternate history route which was something of a middle ground. For horses I included them among the Maya of the highlands in my comic. The southern highlands in Guatemala is mountainous territory and generally colder, more temperate climate where you'll see more pines. The YucatΓ‘n and southern lowlands....too wet as you said. Canoe travel is easier. Even in the colonial period, few roads were built there. I would say leave the horses to the Highland, desertΒ and savanna regions. Camels would work well in the Sonora and Chichimec nomad Γ‘reas. You could even transform them into American Mongols, or Scythians, maybe even Berbers. A Berber/Pueblo type of culture would be cool. Just consider that americans were highly religious with their animals. Dogs, were related to the underworld and eaten. Horses could be related to a certain god. You may even have to crΓ©ate a totally new set of deities and alter things. I imagine horses would be used for travel. labor and food. Camels for travel, food (milk) and labor. SincΓ© silver is in the sonora, across Chichimec lands, you could have that Γ‘rea transformed into a large trading network like the silk road. Turqouise from the north was also coveted.

Man been reading up on the gods of Mesoamerica and will admit it's tough to take in because at least with the Maya they have over a hundred gods some of the same thing. And I still am trying to get behind on who feathered serpent god, Quetzalcoatl is mostly a god of and where did his cult expanded. I know Quetzalcoatl may be as old as the Olmecas as they have two gods who are like him mostly called dragon and feathered serpent. Though I am still trying to separate the gods that would have been enshrined between the fall of Teotihuacan and the rise of the Toltec empire I know Huizliopotchtl is an Aztec addition/exclusive. Hell I'm still trying to see which culture and civilization and tribe survived or felled after the fall of Teotihuacan and Mixcoatl's murder.Β
