Gakuko happened to be in the med room since morning that day, because that place needs a cleanup, if she ever planned to use it. It took a long while, but she got most of the room cleaned up! Just some of the cupboards left to go, and the equipment needs to be tested and checked to make sure they work, and-

Her schedule-planning was interrupted by a familiar face that just walked in from the door. Kagamine Len. She'll stop cleaning up for now. He's probably here to get that wound checked, right? It didn't look like he bled through that bandage, but she'll change the dressing anyway. Safer, no?

Gakuko dusted herself off, then went to get the stuff she needed again.

"Yes, go sit yourself down on the bed, I'll be with you in a moment."

[Sits on one of the cots and waits, swinging his legs idly.

Looks around. Hey, the place is a whole lot cleaner than the last time he came here.]

Gakuko returned shortly with some scissors and new bandages, sat down with Len, and started cutting the old bandages open. It was mostly easy to remove, except for some stubborn bits that decided that, hey, it's totally cool to stick onto Len's arm via dried coolant! Hnn. This would probably hurt a bit.

She carefully and quickly pulled the dressing off in one smooth motion, in an attempt to lessen the pain inflicted on her patient, for once. Once that was done, she leaned closer to the arm to inspect the wound. Looked like it was recovering properly, which was good. Did the wound need to be stitched up? Naah. Gakuko cleaned around the wound with a pair of pliers and some cotton, before bandaging it with new bandages!

At least this session was quick, Gakuko decided, as she secured the bandages. At this rate, it'd be a couple of days before the bandages can come off. Len would still need to avoid strenuous activities with that arm, though. Don't want the wound to tear or something.

"You'd want to come back again tomorrow. It should hurt less next time." Which is true, seeing as how the wound would be bleeding less. Which, in turn, mean less dried coolant, meaning less dressing-stuck-on-skin. Hurrah.

[Ouch that stung. A small tear welled up in one eye. He hadn't expected the woman to rip it off all in one go. He quickly It surprised him, to say the least, but before he could say anything she was already at work inspecting the wound. Didn't seem to be any problem with it since she had gone straight for the bandages right after.

And before he knew it, she was done! It wouldn't be long before he could ditch the bandages entirely. Lucky for him, he wasn't very athletic, and he didn't have anything that could reopen the wound (well, besides the ferrets; but they were pretty tame now).]

Yeah, I will.

[Oh right- he almost forgot. He had something to ask her.]

Gakuko had just put the equipment where they should be- tools to be sterilized and all that- and was about to shoo Len out of the med room, just so she could finish up with the cleaning up, when he asked for a favor.

"A favor? It'll have to depend on what you want, first." She folded her arms and stood where she was, waiting for the Kagamine to speak. She wasn't so stupid as to just agree blindly to favors, even if the boy seemed like a decent kid.

Well, you see... [He rubbed the back of his head, trying to think of how to put it.]

Could you put my memories somewhere? Like back them up on a hard drive or something?

[Considering how every time a Vocaloid went back to Crypton they came back a completely different person, Len didn't want to risk the same thing happening to him. The idea of losing his memories was well... scary.

But if they were stored somewhere else, they could be loaded back into him. It was a comforting thought to say the least.]

Was that all? And here Gakuko was, wondering what kind of a favor the boy had in mind. She went over to the bed at the far corner, bending down to pull out. . . a whole bunch of wires.

"You might need to stay here for a while, so I'd suggest you take a nap." She inspected the wires, making sure she knew what went where, before motioning Len over so she could plug all the wires into him. "If you don't want to nap, I suppose I could get tea for you or something." Her dear nii had already bought more tea, yes?

Kagamine Len, Kagamine Len, CV02. . . Where were the sockets on him?

Tea sounds good. I'll have that. [He wasn't tired at all, and if he had to wait long enough to nap, he wanted to at least be a little bit drowsy so he could.

He sat down on the cot closest to her and watched as she rummaged through the wired. How long was she gonna take?]

"Alright, then." Gakuko shrugged, then nodded. She walked around the blond until she was behind him, then held the wires up. "Try not to move." Although there was no reason for him to, yes? After all, plugging these wires in was mostly painless.

Once everything was plugged in properly, Gakuko went to that one desktop in the medroom, and sat herself down.

"Your backup data, do you want to hold on to it yourself, or should I keep it here for you?" She'd need to record this somewhere later, wouldn't she? Standard protocol and all.

Huh? Oh, oka- [He stopped as she plugged in the first wire, wincing as a small shock surged in the back of his neck. It didn't hurt per say, but it startled him. He hadn't had anything like that done since he was last at Crypton (which was... a year ago? Dang, that was awhile). The others went in with no trouble at all; he could barely feel them.

He blinked at the woman’s next question and tilted his head out of instinct, forgetting for a split second that she told him not to. Hmm. If Crypton found a backup on him, and they were going to reformat him, they'd probably take that too. If that happened, there wouldn’t have been any point in making a backup in the first place!

Sigh. This was depressing.]

Keep it here. And well... [He paused and looked away. It just felt... weird saying it; like he had already resigned to some kind of fate he wasn’t even sure would come to pass. That wasn't it, but he didn't want to take the chance. The thought of losing his memories - losing his entire personality - terrified him. It was almost like dying; and since he was a robot - and thus not alive in the first place - it wasn't like he had the comfort of being able to believe in some sort of afterlife. What would happen to him?

He shuddered. He was thinking way too far into this.]

Um... -purses lips- I-if I come back and I'm... different - like, I'm not myself, c-could you load these back into me? Please...?

[Dammit. Why was he so nervous!? This was a backup. It wasn’t like Gakuko was gonna erase his memories or anything. She was helping him. If anything, he should be happy she agreed to do this all. Who knows what would’ve happened if she said no, or wasn’t there at all! He clenched his eyes shut, trying to push all the anxiety out of his mind.

Ugh, he shook his head. So frustrating.]

"Okay." Gakuko shrugged. Here it will stay, then. She briefly wondered if Len had thought of her as stupid- asking about where he wanted the backup and all- keeping the backup here was such a duh answer, wasn't it? Still, there were vocaloids who would rather keep the backup in a safe place- fat load of good that'll do, it's not like anyone but themselves knew where the backup was stored, and the only time you really need the backup would be when your memory's bid farewell to you.

She typed rapidly away at the keyboard, pausing to click a few things every now and then, then finished just on time to hear Len's second question. Different? Like right now, he meant?

"Sure. But you'll need to specify what kind of 'different' you mean." She paused for a moment, thinking about how- and why- the boy felt different to her right now. Ah. It's how the boy seemed to be worrying so much, isn't it?

"You know, you are quite different, right now. Cheer up, what's worrying you?" In the meantime, while she was waiting for an answer, she'll just remain seated at the computer.

She wanted to get started on making that tea already.

[Oh yeah, Gakuko was a doctor, not a mind reader. Len scratched his head, trying to think of a way to explain it to her. They weren’t exactly close, so he couldn’t expect her to be able to tell right off the bat if they replaced him. And with the updates of course there’d be something different, but… ugh.

He grabbed his bangs out of frustration, but quickly let go and let his hands drop back to his side. This was no time to have a breakdown. The woman was right; he was acting different. But it wasn’t because something was wrong with him. There was a chance he was going to reformatted soon. That should be enough to send at least a few shivers of fear down the spine of any robot.

But he should lighten up a little. Gakuko didn’t seem like the comforting type, and crying would get him nowhere. He lightly kicked his legs and thought.]

You… know how everyone that gets sent back to Crypton comes back a different person, right?

[He folded his arms, still uncomfortable.]

I-if I’m like that, could you load my memories back up?

[He stopped, a lump in the back up his throat. This was frustrating, and earned a sigh that expressed just that.]
