Hey there!
I hope you don't take this offensively, but I really want to tell you something that I didn't know early on in high school. I hope it can help you out, too!
Magazine ads are great for practice; however, if you're planning on going to art school, they REALLY won't like the fact that you're "copying someone else's work". Photographs do count as artwork, remember. I recommend that you start using photos of your friends, or even start doing studies from life. You should start now so that you have a huge body to choose from by the time you're ready to start heading off to college.
You're so so talented, and it would be really sad to see you run out of time to finish your portfolio--I almost ran into that problem myself! I look forward to seeing what you create in the future.
((And P.S.... If you're going to do studies from already existing artwork, it's best to do "Master Copies" like you did with your acrylic painting. Art schools (and high school art teachers) will like that work far better than work out of magazines.
