I suppose thats true. I mean, the art progression is pretty obvious from the story posts archive alone, and thats only like a year deep. Still, don't cha think their something "too stiff" at times? Like in a lot of representational it seems bound to possible over worked perfection that loses flow. Like the artist behind Luna After Dark for example, his works often more toony, but its extremely fluid, dynamic and expressive...Perhaps its worth studying that kind of work as it may transfer over into more polish heavy projects...

Yeah I know what you mean, it's the reason why I hate linearts.
The best way I found to work against it is first to learn proportions but also study postures/gestures and it's working. There is also some parts of the body which give more expression and fluidity than others, like the hands and the face, just with those two you can greatly improve the dynamic of a drawing/painting. Ponies have no hands tho, that's why I went Anthro, hooves are too stressfull xD

But yeah when I see artists like Atryl with that cartoony style and those awesome gestures and perspectives I question my choices

I think its more a matter of compositional working really. If you focus too much on fixing things, it can lead to the posing being off as you start breaking the piece into segments before the actual balance and fluidity is established. Hell, in my figure drawing classes I'm always often the most attached to 30 second to two minute drawings over the 30 minute to 2 hour poses, as the originals are so fast they force you to see the work as a singular entity rather then working one bit at a time originally.

But that's difficult to capture without an enforced time frame, and they say if it doesn't come naturally the only way to really learn it is to set up an exercise regimen, like the 30 second exercises on pose maniacs etc.

Well, yeah haha well kinda. I'm just about through getting a graphic design degree so its not as fine arts orientated as I'd like, but I hope to use as a transition into illustration.

No problem I love posemaniacs, I mean the site itself hasn't been updated in forever and I could raise some complaints about the selection of womens poses but its a great tool for go to refs and daily exercises.
