If you spell "Nars" with a double "r", "Narrs", it becomes the National Amphibian and Reptile Recoding Scheme
You should draw her interacting with newts and snakes

Yeah they do some pretty cool stuff with a very long term studies across the UK! They've got some really helpful documents about each species and how to carry out reptile & amphibian surveys
www.narrs.org.uk/widespread.phβ¦
Every time I read "Nars" on dA I can't help but think of the NARRS

Oooh this is neat!Β I remember helpingΒ aguy several years ago where he was catching and tagging animals... he'd catch toads now an dthen bc they were easy to get to fall into the bucket/hole after they;'d hop along the mesh fence he had set up for them.

What animals was he tagging and do you know what the project/aim of it was? It's so interesting to take part in such projects
Ahah I wonder what Nars would do is she were to fall in giant bucket full of toads x)
Aye, I do that too On construction and/or restoration sites they have to set some reptile/amphibian fences to exclude the animals so they don't get killed, we place buckets in the ground and then go and collect them to place them on the other side of the fence (usually near a refugia/hibernaculum so they are safe from predators). I love doing it, it feels like your saving lives and doing something useful with your own life I was supposed to do some this week again but the weather is most likely going to be too cold and rainy/frosty for it x)

I know he was tracking some birds like the scrub jay!Β He was also setting traps out to tag/examine anything that might get stuck like raccoons and skunks, but I do not know if he was aiming for anything specific.Β Otherwise, he was looking for coachwips Β I have only ever seen one coachwip and it was sadly dead.
I am so glad you do that near construction sites!!Β They don't seem to do stuff like that here We get a lot of roadkill.Β Very sad... I always notice as I drive up North (I live in South/middle Florida, so the southernmost you can go in the US and stay on the continent), that there are tall fences that prevent even deer from leaping over and onto the interstate.Β We just have a short fence that borders property lines down here.Β Doesn't save anybody :/
That sounds so neat though, I bet you find cool animals and discover neat species and neat patterns or behavior in animals you may not see otherwise

Oh that's so cool! It must have been so good for you to tag along with him
We have a lot of roadkills too, sadly We've got loads of people also poaching badgers (protected species) and then leaving the bodies on the road at night so people will believe they've been killed by a car ><
Oh I wish we had this kind of fences! They're really rare though, it seems to be really expensive to build as it usually involves building a bridge than would be used by wildlife only, as a wildlife corridor. It's so expensive they tend to avoid it
Yeah my favorite one is the grass snakes as they can "play dead" when they're scared www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbGpqFβ¦

Oh jeez!Β That is so awful.Β What are they poaching badgers for?Β Trophy hunting?
Oooh I had not thought of that, I see now why it is so rare. Dang D:
And OMG I have never seen a grass snake playing dead! XDΒ So silly hehehe.Β I have seen opossums pretending but not a cute li'l snake

Wolf250 In reply to Koeyohte [2018-05-06 19:07:53 +0000 UTC]
Not for trophy hunting as they then leave them on the road so no one will suspect a thing. Only because they may damage some gardens or farm lands T___T
Also England has a long history of fox and badger hunting and though it is now forbidden some of the very posh and/or hunting families still see it as a right to do so, no matter what the law says (you know how some people always see themselves as above the law when they're so rich)
These snakes are adorable They stink though when they play dead, they do their "number two" so the bad smell would make the predator/danger believe that's dead and rotten dead

Awww wow that is so rude of people :/Β Like I have nothing against hunting if it is done for a reason/for food/ad done respectfully but yikes.Β We've had people around here set poison out and kill hogs because they were tearing up yards.Β Like... humans are an invasive species, don't take it out on the wildlife D:
Ohh I was wondering!!Β Becuase you would think a freshly dead thing might make an easy meal.Β But yeah, rotting meat maybe not so much XDD
π: 0 β©: 1
Wolf250 In reply to Koeyohte [2018-05-06 21:31:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeah same, I love meat and I don't mind hunting if it's respectful for the animals (as quick as possible to minimise the suffering and done for food with no waste).
Hogs can be a real trouble if there's a lack of natural predators, I know in France wild boars tend to destroy everything and there are too many of them in places where there's no wolves or lynxes. Same in Scotland where there's absolutly no natural predators for deers, and because of a lack of regulation the populations have grown out of control and forests are disappearing real fast (deers like to the bark of younger trees, the bark can grow back once after a couple of years, but since there's too many deers they keep feeding on those trees and thus the forests are dying - that's reason number one why ecologists would like to reintroduce wolves there)
We are invasive indeed and messing up with everything
