Hi Liam, Some amazing IR photographs in your gallery. I too myself have recently gotten into IR and was wondering if you were to offer some tips or guidance. So far i have not converted my camera and simply am working it using a filter. I was wondering you shot with an IR ready camera, and other technical things while shooting, for example like your white balance and shutter speed, ISO, aperture etc.

HEY! Thank
sorry havent been on for a few days, so I wasnt ignoring you I have a nikon D70 which is converted so I tend to only have to add a fraction of 100th of a second to my exposures as apposed to put the R72 on the end of the lens.
Some the things it took me ages to work out was in photoshop afterwards
always shot in RAW, on importing to PS set the temp to 2000 and the tint to about -79 (this is a rough guide you'll need to play with the setting to get the look you want)
now open and in the channel mixer swap the blue for red and vice versa I.e. in red set red to zero and blue to 100 and then select blue channel set blue to zero and red to 100. You may need to desaturate yellows and greens. Its mainly about paying around. But the above was the hardest bit of info I had to find so I could get my IR to look the way I wanted it too.
hope this helps, Liam

First of all thanks so much for taking the time out and replying; not many that are nice and friendly as you on this website willing to share their art secrets and techniques haha. I have an expensive DSLR that does video too and i am not going to go and ruin that one by converting it to an IR; perhaps in the future if i were to get better at it; and find more use for it, then i will buy a IR ready DSLR or something. As for now, I simply wanted to know more about the photographic aspect of it. You've been thoroughly helpful in terms of the computer / photoshop post work but; since you have an IR ready camera perhaps i am barking up the wrong tree hehe. Perhaps you may be able to help me on what to set as my custom white balance. Is there any particular trick in order to get the ghost like 'white' trees that you've beautifully photographed? I've read in many places that in order to get the ghostly white foliage you are to set the custom white balance as the color tone of bright and shining grass, and others tell me to photograph a white paper with the filter on then set the white balance. What's your process? Thanks in advance mate.
