Hi Maria, I love your work! I found you from a photographer's page who said not to use a photo commercially. I'm sensitive to that, bc I'm both an attorney and an artist. Using art for inspiration and reference is legally protected as "fair use," if we don't create a direct reproduction, "slavishly copy" or take the heart of the original. Photographers don't "own" basic elements like the shape or anatomy of a rabbit, or the pose of a child.
From what I've seen, your work is stylized and in a different medium than the original photographs. So don't feel shy about using references - photographers should be flattered. Congrats on your success thus far and keep up the beautiful images! βΊ

I use references in my work most of the time, either my own or others'. However, I do believe photography is an art form, especially concept photography that conveys unique ideas and scenes. So I prefer to get permission from a photographer if I want to use their photo, I think it's only fair to them.
