That's sweet of you to say.  I still feel I have a long way to go, but I do appreciate it.

And why wouldn't I watch you?  I enjoy various cartoony-and-the-like styles of art - and though you haven't been on here all that long, you can tell you've been drawing characters for a while and can get a good amount of emotion in them.  Nice work.  : )

Tagback from RurouniZel : )

1. How has your day been?  Pretty good actually.  Had a good service at church (usually do - especially since our pastor is such an interesting and well-educated woman), then went out to lunch with a couple from there, and then just sort of came home and chatted on a variety of topics with my husband...Just kind of a nice, laid-back day all around. : )

2. Who are your favorite artists?  Other than the DevArt ones I mentioned in the original tag, I like the look of much of Alphonse Mucha's work, and I love James Gurney's illustrations (best known for Dinotopia) even though I paint far less realistically than he does.  I also enjoy a variety of cartoonist styles, like Miyazaki, Glen Keane's designs for Disney, Akira Toriyama, etc. ...And I absolutely LOVE Ayami Kojima's paintings ~ <3

3. Who is your favorite character in either comic books/cartoons/games/anime/manga/roleplaying/etc. etc.?  Yikes - I don't know if I could pick just one.  Out of things I've seen lately, I really like Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Joseph and Jotaro Joestar from Jojo's a lot.

--> OH, and to you, lover of all things cute specifically - if you have not played the Shantae games yet, I HIGHLY recommend them.. especially when it gets up to Pirate's Curse - All of the characters are very fun and absolutely adorable.~ <3

4. Introvert or Extrovert?  Introvert as far as speaking and needing alone 'down time', but I also really love people like to get to have time around them sometimes, too. : )  ..usually preferably in small group settings though.

5. Favorite musician?  Another 'hard to pick one' question - Tend to be a classic rock girl in most of my music taste - otherwise listen to game soundtracks mostly.

6. Favorite color? Love all colors, but if I have to pick - anything in the Teal/Aqua family is awesome. ~ <3

7. Do you like social media?  Tolerate it?  Avoid it like the plague?  Depends on the site, but I'm pretty 'meh' about most of it  ...Reminds me of the joke from the new "Manos" Rifftrax where there's a bunch of women in sheer dresses slapping each other and Mike says, "So..This is basically how the website Pinterest works, right?"

8. If you won the lottery, what one thing would you absolutely have to do?
Set up my family so they wouldn't always have to work so hard/much and set up a single moms charity fund in my mum's honor. : )

9. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Italy, Ireland, Japan and maybe Morocco - oh, and Australia and New Zealand! : )

10. Did you have a hero as a child?  If so, who?
For actual ones, the Lord and my mum. (Still are!) For fictional ones, I looked up to certain characters even though it'd probably seem silly now.  For 'dad'-type figures - Darkwing Duck and Goku from DBZ.  For role-model type ladies - I looked up to strong female warrior characters like Red Sonja, Cheetara, Pteryx (Dinosaucers), Tula (Pirates of Dark Water) and Zula (Conan). ^ ^;

11. If you could have a super power, what would you want?
I go back and forth on this, and while this wouldn't be my favorite choice, the one that I find myself daydreaming about the most often is being able to phase through things like Shadowcat.

12. Cats or Dogs?
Depends on the specific cat or dog - short answer would be cats right now just because I love both of ours so much. : )

13. If you could be taken via a time machine on a tour to visit a past era of humanity, where you would not be able to interact with any of the people there and they could neither see nor feel your presence in anyway whatsoever, what era would you travel to?
Interesting question... there's a few I'd like to go experience - Yeshua's three years teaching in Israel, pre-Columbian Western America, Warring States Era Japan or Three Kingdoms Era China (which reminds me, if you haven't seen Red Cliff, do so - it's absolutely amazing.  The director's cut is best, but if you can't get that - at least the theatrical version that's on Netflix. : ) )

Oh - you're questions weren't 'hard to answer' in a bad way - they were just ones where I had more than a few responses to it - more about me being fond of a variety of things.  They were good questions!

And yes, you should!  They're so peppy and cute and fun. (And the two on Steam are occasionally on a good sale. ^ ^; )  : )

Tag-back from Tigryph

13 Questions from her:

  • Do you have a life verse or a song that you've taken as yours? Kind of like your motto or theme song? Life verse would probably be I Cor 13:4-7 (I actually have them micro-inscribed on my wedding ring.)  That definition of how to live out a life of love resonates with me.  I think one would do well in life to live by them. (I try, but I'm definitely not perfect. ^ ^; )
  • Fantasy or Sci-Fi? I love both and it depends on the story, but if just asking general preference..I'd say a mixture of both.
  • Why on #2? It just seems to help people open up to new creative possibilities... Sometimes I think people write straight fantasy and get caught up in the (albeit, wonderful,) world built up by Tolkien, and write straight sci-fi and get caught up in trying to just remake Aliens.
  • If you never had to worry about money or work, what would you do with yourself? Make art, illustrated books, and video games like I'm trying to do though I'm not quite in the position to do that full-time...yet. ; )  I'd probably travel more, too - both recreationally and on mission trips and the like to go help people.  ..And we'd finally have at least one or two children and surround ourselves with rescue pets of all kinds. ~ <3
  • If you were somehow tossed onto Survivor, how far do you think you'd get?  If by myself, maybe a little far - if with my husband, we'd totally make it through the whole thing - he's an eagle scout/martial artist/wilderness survival-enthusiast. ^^ ~ <3
  • If you got turned into an animal, what would you be and why? (Not what you'd want to be but what you think you'd be) Probably a Great Blue Heron... I tend to be silent and cautious around people I don't know and really enjoy being in or near the water.  I'm also born and raised in Florida and feel most at home around the native, natural settings down here. ...I just really dislike eating fish, so I guess it's lizards and bugs for me! ; p
  • Where do you get most of your inspiration for your artwork/writing?  Flat out inspiration must be from God because I've wanted to draw and paint as long as I remember.  Otherwise, things I do to 'restock the pond' - as it were - are listening to music that matches the tone of what I'm painting, looking at artwork from artists I admire like Loish and Kawiku, and take a break to play games with stories, characters and/or gameplay elements I enjoy. ...I guess that *kind of* answers that.... ^ ^;
  • Do you give your character(s) theme songs?  Absolutely!  Or else, at least find theme songs for things they're going through.  I actually make playlists for different projects as I work on them.
  • What's on your bucket list? Um, see answer to #4?
  • If you had a kid or kids, what would you name them?  I don't want to name specifics because we're planning to have at least one or two and I'm a bit paranoid about giving information about kids over the internet ; p , but I like the idea of naming kids after beautiful things like flowers, trees and gemstones.
  • ...how messy is your room?  ..Try to keep it mostly clean...actual amount varies depending on how soon we're having visitors... XD
  • What's a weird pet peeve of yours?  I guess it's a bit more than a 'pet peeve', but though I'm not usually the excitable type, it does drive me nuts when I see empty packages at work where people have just somehow convinced themselves it's okay to steal something.  IT'S NOT OKAY!  We don't really sell food - so you're not stealing to feed your starving family - you just saw something you wanted and didn't want to pay for it.  That's just plain theft no matter how you cut it!  ><*
  • Digital books (like kindle) or physical copies?  My answer for this one is a bit split.. For actually reading, I like to read on a screen because it makes my eyes tire less quickly, but I absolutely LOVE the feel of old books - I'd love for my work space to feel like the abandoned library they run their operations out of in Person of Interest --> i.ytimg.com/vi/y5ZZai8oBEE/max… ~ <3

    TAGGED:
I posted this here since I use my journal for the monthly REDesign suggestions - I hope that's alright. : )

I was tagged by with the following:

    RULES

  • I have to post these rules.
  • Each person has to share 13 things about them.
  • Answer the 13 questions asked to you and invent 13 questions the people you tag will have to answer.
  • Choose 13 people.
  • You have to legitimately tag 13 people.
  • You can't say you don't do tags. Do what you want.  These things shouldn't feign enforcement - it makes them sound like a silly chain letter threat. ; p
  • Tag-backs are ALLOWED.
  • YOU MUST MAKE A JOURNAL ENTRY. NO COMMENTS. Unless you're commenting about the actual entry. Sorry - I use my journal for a variety of things so I can't keep this one!

  • 13 THINGS ABOUT ME
  • I'm Christian - the kind that believes in love, freedom, respect and peace for each person and all peoples whether I agree with them or not.
  • I'm older than a good number of people I know on the internet, but not all.
  • I've always lived in Florida. (...And do still love it here!)
  • I used to cosplay when I was younger - pretty much just stopped because of time and cost.
  • Though my husband and I only married 2 years ago, we were best friends over a decade before that. : )
  • Half my heritage is Greek and the other is mostly a mix of Irish and Welsh.
  • I drink -a lot- of tea.  Possibly too much, but I try to keep it varied and not always caffeinated.
  • I'm a terrible cook!  It's a good thing my husband is great at it! ^ ^;
  • I've secretly really been enjoying learning programming and also enjoy writing though I haven't shared much of it. (Funny story - one of the few compliments I received about anything I did in art college was my art history teacher saying that my writing was excellent and should play a role in my art... Kind of had mixed feelings about it at the time since I was getting so little positive feedback about my art...which what I was there to learn... ; p )
  • I love animals of all kinds - from our darling pets to learning about new, interesting ones I hadn't heard of before. (And dinosaurs are awesome, too!)
  • For whatever reason, I've noticed I tend to gravitate towards watching Youtubers from the UK - such as Ashens, GuruLarry & Yahtzee Croshaw (Well, the last one was born in the UK and moved to Australia.  Though he has his own channel, Yahtzee is best known for doing "Zero Punctuation" and "Judging by the Cover" for Escapist there...Hilarious, but definitely not recommended for younger/sensitive viewers! ^ ^; )
  • My favorite flowers are Water Lilies.  I also like a lot of the tropical ones we have down here like Hibiscus & Bromeliads.  However, for arrangements and landscaping, I tend to prefer more tropical greenery, bamboo, etc. over more traditional garden looks.
  •  Um.. and my husband's cat is crawling all over me and purring very loudly while I've been trying to type this! ^ ^;

  • Questions asked by Nicole-Designer

    1. Who is your favorite deviant on DA?
Hmm.. Can't say just one.  Person-wise - RurouniZel , waxburden (though she's never on here any more..), TheeForsakenOne & Sayis5 are all wonderful people.  Art-wise I've been influenced by - loish , Nashya /babydahl (also not on in ages), bara-chan & Kawiku   I've also met a bunch of kind people here recently as well like Nicole-Designer , Vampiress-Stocking , Tigryph and indigocrowgirl . : )
    2. Do you have a theme to your page or your work?
Hm.  Not really.  I do a good deal of fantasy/sci-fi/game-inspired work I guess?  I mostly enjoy painting figures & portraits - especially if it involves character and/or fashion design. : )
    3. Favorite musician?
Again, can't pick one - I tend to listen to mostly Classic Rock and Game and other Soundtracks.  Since watching Jojo's, I've been listening to more REO Speedwagon, Yes and other musicians characters were named after or who's songs became ending themes for it.. ; p  ..And other great Classic Rock groups/artists like Boston, Van Halen, the Scorpions, Genesis, Heart, Toto, Mr. Mister, Journey, Steve Perry, Alice Cooper (actually only like one of his songs much, but I like it quite a lot and wished I liked more since he's supposed to be such a nice guy.. ), Sweet, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.  Christian Rock-wise, I do enjoy some of Petra's stuff - For Christian Gothic metal, the Polish group Illuminandi.  (Sad Jan is leaving though - he's my favorite! : ( )  ..My favorite music video is A-ha's "Take On Me".  I like Cyndi Lauper a lot and also absolutely love Roxette - and still find it amazingly amusing to watch the music video for the song "Almost Unreal" ( Which you can watch here. ) ...as it's this beautiful, romantic song that was...the ending to the live-action Mario Brothers movie (Yes, the one with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo that left a lot of audience members..confused... ^ ^; )
Sidenote: In case you can't tell from the above, I feel music can greatly influence and add-to art.  I almost always prefer my paintings where I've been listening to thematically appropriate music in the background as I work to ones where I've had a show or silence on instead. : )

    4. What do you identify as???
Female - assuming you're referring to gender???
    5. Favorite cosplay or aspiring cosplay?
I would love to someday cosplay one of my Phantasy Star Universe characters - especially including the technique for making actually glowing light lines that waxburden told me about when we were wanting to make Tron costumes. : )
    6. Who is your all time favorite character? (can be from anything)
HAHAAA...Like I could pick!  I guess I'll just say my favorites from things I've recently watched:
(If I get into game characters, we'll be here all day. ; p )
From Jojo's: Robert Edward O. Speedwagon (Yes, that's the character's actual name!), Joseph Joestar (when young and old) & Jotaro Joestar
From Tiger and Bunny: Wild Tiger - gotta love a single dad trying to make an honest living as a sponsored superhero..
From Person of Interest: Harold Finch & Det. Joss Carter *still grumbling in Mr. Nolan's direction* ... ... ...

    7. Digital or Traditional?
Both!  All of my pieces start out as traditional pencil drawings because, for whatever reason, I have a lot more trouble getting down proportions when I start out directly on the computer.  I also enjoy doing all-traditional pieces from time to time - usually in a mix of watercolor with colored pencil and/or ink.
    8. Do you enjoy when people comment on your work?
Of course - it's always nice to get feedback.
    9. What would you do if you could meet all your watchers??
Umm.. Thank them, give them a hug and a free print? (Assuming I could afford to at the time. ; p )
    10. Is there anything you want to improve on in 2016?
Artwise, I would say composition and lighting specifically - as well as just generally improved overall quality.
    11. What would you do if you could go anywhere on the world?
Uhhh.. Not sure what I'd do - kind of have some parts of Italy I'd like to visit, as well as Ireland and Japan.  Morocco might also be a cool place though the bulk of what I know of it comes from Epcot.  ; p  What I saw there of it was very beautiful though!
    12. If you could be an animal what would you be??
Hmm... Another tough one with a lot of answers for me..  A Velociraptor or other bipedal dinosaur?  Or a feathered, winged dinosaur like Archaeopterex or Protoavis?  Almost any sort of Big Cat?  Wolf?  Bird of Prey?  Crane, heron or egret?
    13. And lastly, are you having a good day?()
Pretty much - especially now that I'm home from work and feeling a little better.  Thank you for asking. : )

    1.  What is your heritage? Mexican by blood. Both my parents are Mexican. However I was born in Rome, Italy.

    2. What is your favorite video game character?  Link - specifically the Hero of Time from the Ocarina of Time series.

    3. What is your favorite Hayao Miyazaki film? (If you have one.) Grave of the Fireflies. I cried both times that I watched it.

    4. What is your favorite place you have traveled? That's a tough one... umm... coin flip between Barcelona and Moscow.

    5. What is your favorite scent? Ironically I enjoy the scent of lavender even though I'm apparently allergic to the actual plant getting on my skin.

    6. If you could have any mythical animal companion, what would it be? Sentient? A dwarf. Non-sentient? A dragon, duh

    7. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Super-Reading!

    8. What is your favorite food that comes from your answer to #1? Gnochetti Verdi. Google image it :3 They're little gnocchi made of spinach that are just... omg the absolute best thing. Defo my death row last meal.

    9. What color/s of clothing do you prefer to wear the most? It's not technically a colour, since it's black. But my favourite colours in general are green and red, though I rarely wear them.

    10. Do you prefer freshwater or saltwater environments?  Why? I like the "idea" of freshwater environments because I like thinking that I can drink the water, but the reality is that it's generally lakes and pods that smell and are full of mosquitoes. Waterfalls are the exception but I've never seen one up close. As for saltwater, I dislike it because I can't drink it, but I do like the underwater environment. I used to do a lot of scuba-diving and always enjoyed seeing all the colourful flora and fauna. Conversely I dislike the beach because I burn, and I hate getting smacked around by giant waves.

    11. What is your favorite dessert? Tiramisu, hands down.

    12. What is your favorite time of day or night? I like dawn. That time of day where there's enough light out where you can see everything clearly but the sun isn't glaring down and burning the crap out of you. Or getting in your eyes forcing you to go all squinty-eyed. Temperature wise I also like that it's nice and cool.

    13. What question would you ask yourself if you were to make up a final question for this, and what would the answer to that question be? ; ) Hmm... Because I'm fluent in a lot of languages, the one question that I rarely get but I think is fascinating to think about is: "what language do you think in?"

Very interesting answers!  I don't usually do these things, but I'm glad I did this time because I'm finding out so many interesting things from the people who've responded to them.

What would the dwarf be like?  And the Gnochetti Verdi does look and sound really good.  I'll have to see if my husband can make some. (His grandmother might have a nice recipe since that side of his family is Italian.)  Interesting comments on freshwater vs. saltwater environments as well.  I enjoy both, personally.  And yes, Tiramisu is amazing

Hey!  No teasing though!  13 says to make up a question AND answer it!  Now I'm all curious about it! (..and curious as to what languages you know!)

    Sayis5 In reply to MandarinSwift [2016-03-24 18:26:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah xD It does say to answer it. Well I'm fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian. Swedish I'm okay, and Czech I've forgotten, but I did live there for four years as a kid, so I'm certain that if I were to spend even a month there I'd probably re-activate those dormant neurons and pick it up again. As for what language I think in, it depends on my location. Since I'm in the US, studying in English and dealing with English-speakers, it's predominantly English. In Mexico, however, when I'm around my parents and so on, it's of course Spanish. But I have had dreams in French or such, especially when I dream about school. I went to a French private school from elementary school to sophomore year of high school (equivalent) so I went through the French curriculum as any French kid would.

As for what this imaginary dwarf... Well I always loved the dwarves from R.A. Salvatore's novels. It's clear he loves them, probably because of the Hobbit and LotR, and it shows through how he portrays them: the tight-knit kinship, "dwarf to dwarf, shoulder to shoulder" and when all my friends were saying "I'd be an Elf!" to the question of "what fantasy race would you be?", I'd always say dwarf because of that reason, even though I usually play an elf in most video-games that offer the choice. Anyway I imagine he or she, would be no-nonsense, gruff, have a fierce sense of justice, and wouldn't mind clobbering his/her way out of a problem xD

    MandarinSwift In reply to Sayis5 [2016-03-25 18:27:08 +0000 UTC]

That's absolutely fascinating!  It always amazes me when I meet people who can speak more than one or two languages.  There was a girl I went to college with that had a military family that moved around several times so she ended up fluent in 8 languages!  That boggles the mind - I was fluent in two at one point but wouldn't say I am any more since I pretty much only ever use English these days.  I'd love to learn more at some point though.

And that makes sense about what language you think in and dream in...very interesting!

And your dwarf sounds wonderful!  I know what you mean - I absolutely love dwarves and their strong bonds of fiercely loyal comradery, too, but I also usually end up playing something with a physique that more matches my own - at least for my main in a given game.

Agreed ^^ Which is why I usually play elves. But as a culture, and as you said, the bonds and such, dwarves all the way >:3

    That's actually how you're supposed to - I just put mine in a comment since I use my journal for other things. ^ ^;

I love your page! I do a ton of redesigns of characters for cosplays so when I saw your page I freaked out!

Likewise - you have a lot of really interesting redesigns as well!    I especially love the Joseph and Ghirahim ones - I didn't think I'd see redesigns of them ever, and you did them so beautifully!!!
