I know that it will sound silly but... just go for it! It can be a bit scary when you're new, especially because there are a lot of talented cosplayers on the internet. Keep in mind that they also had to start at the bottom.Β I haven't been cosplaying that long myself tbh. I only started in October 2014 and my costumes weren't that good at all. :')
I'd start by choosing a character that you'd really like to cosplay. You can search in your closet for clothes that would fit the characters style. Try to find a wig in the right style and color, do a little make-up test and off you go!
Don't be to hard at yourself and don't be afraid to make mistakes. In the end, cosplay should be for fun.
