Truthfully, you'd be just a good judge as I am on the matter. I'm only 19, so we're basically the same age.

It seems to be all the more prolific nowadays, at least in regards to gay marriage debates, etc, so I it's an almost unavoidable topic. I'm really not so sure what I think about it, and I don't know (as far as I'm aware) any people with whom I have regular, face-to-face contact with, that are homosexual, which makes it a little difficult to know exactly.. well, what they think. Not that any two people will think exactly the same.

Recently here in Australia, in my city Adelaide, we've had a bunch of street preachers in the main mall of the city saying mostly the same things in regards to what God hates, etc. I've not encountered them personally, but people I know have. Suffice to say, nobody likes them, due to the messages they are sending, and the manner in which they do it (megaphone, large signs).

But I digress somewhat

Music is music, and what I disagree with, I tend not to listen to, as you say. Sometimes "secular" music has good messages, and occasionally, even "Christian" doesn't have the best. The notion that music somehow influences your sexuality is bizarre, but I wouldn't really know about anything else. Something I have noticed about the power of music though, is that it has the ability to put words in our mouth we may have not conceived of saying before.

Anyway, I've rambled a bit, so I'm not sure how helpful that all was.

jennifibber In reply to Modnar-Redrosid [2011-12-05 19:55:55 +0000 UTC]

Rambling is great, honestly. :]

I have a lot of homo/bisexual friends, which I guess is why this topic is really important to me. I love my friends, and I can't imagine hating them just because they're gay.

So these street preachers are going around and saying God hates gays and stuff? Like, full out marching and protesting kind of thing?

I agree, music does put words in your mouth, and it's hard to catch yourself when that's happening, but really it's a mind over matter deal. If you let yourself be influenced, then you will be.

Modnar-Redrosid In reply to jennifibber [2011-12-12 06:49:09 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I think I can ramble a lot.

They don't march so much as they stand around in a particular place, either in the mall, or I think I've seen them just off the mall at a bus stop.

I love rambling. xD

That's so strange to me. I'm from such a small town that we don't ever have to deal with things like that.

Haha, yeah. It's funny though, when we moved from there, it was to a bigger town, about 16000 pop., but it was 3 hours away from the next biggest city. And we used to think that the 2 hour drive before was long as kids, haha.

Hahaha that figures. I've never moved before, but I'm going to be moving this upcoming spring to a different state. The town I plan to move to isn't much bigger, but it's closer to the bigger cities (and shopping, oh how I love shopping). lol

Ohoho~ Lucky! I got to live a good five minute drive from the beach when I was going to school. Unfortunately, it was either too cold, or I was too busy to enjoy it. It was a pretty view, though.

Haha, yeah. I don't swim alot, but I might take it up. More of a, enjoy the view, make sand-sculptures or massive holes type of person.

We're already planning to take a cheap table and chairs out onto the beach and have breakfast though!

I love being in the water. Where I'm from, we have a lot of lakes and I love swimming there. When I go to the ocean, though, I don't go out past a certain point because I'm not a strong swimmer and I freak myself out when I see clumps of seaweed. xD Plus, it's freezing where I go. Like, so cold you go in and about 45 seconds later you can't feel your ankles. lol

That sounds like so much fun! I used to take the kids I babysat to the ocean (they were 2 and 3 years old) and they just loved sitting on the beach and playing in the sand. They freaked and ran away from the surf and chased it back out. They were so cute.

Haha, yeah, I don't like the initial adjustment to the cold. Also not a fantastic swimmer, but it's actually been quite a while.

That would've been interesting. How hard were they to look after?

Hey! Not much. It really has been quite a while. I've been working, I dunno if I told you that yet. I'm working as a massage therapist, finally! I'm just getting paid tips though since I don't have my state license yet, but soon I will. :]

What have you been up to?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Modnar-Redrosid In reply to jennifibber [2012-03-09 04:40:28 +0000 UTC]

Possibly not, it's been, gosh, two months about. Do people tip fairly well? Tipping's not much of a thing here in Aus (at least that I've experienced).

Annnd, quite a lot, really. Been out of home with my brother since mid-January, so that's been rather interesting. Uni's back, still working (but now part-time), desperately need a piano at the place I'm living though ._.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jennifibber In reply to Modnar-Redrosid [2012-03-09 07:22:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they tip pretty well, especially since they know tips are my only source of income at the moment. That and, not to toot my own horn or anything, I give a pretty nice massage according to my clients. lol

You were telling me about that earlier. So how's living with your brother going? Are you enjoying yourself? And you hadn't told me before that you play piano. That's really cool. :] I play a little, piano and guitar mostly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Modnar-Redrosid In reply to jennifibber [2012-03-10 03:06:14 +0000 UTC]

Haha, well, I think they'd certainly let you know if you weren't doing a good job.

It has its ups and downs. There are certain things that make it easier, and certain things that make it harder. At the moment we haven't been eating too well all the time 'cause we're still getting used to cooking (burnt a couple things too). There've been a few issues with chores, but generally we're okay. And an eventful couple of days regarding my driving habits.

But yes, neeed piaaanooo. I haven't had tuition in...probably years, I just compose and that suits me well enough (oh, and play in church every couple weeks). Dad's recommended I do one of these interest free things and get a keyboard/electric piano. I want a full size weighted one without excessive frills.

I'd like to be able to play guitar, but don't know if I have the patience to learn as good as I want to be. I think it's just that I listen to heavier music and so I naturally think of songs in those terms. How long have you been playing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jennifibber In reply to Modnar-Redrosid [2012-03-10 05:02:06 +0000 UTC]

I should hope so. lol

Ahh, I remember learning to cook things while I was away from my parents. There were a few interesting concoctions. I remember the first time I ever tried frying chicken. Let's suffice it to say the smoke detector would've gone off if there had been batteries in it. lol I'm an awful cook, but I love baking. If I could live off of brownies, cake and cookies without getting fat... xD Things will get easier as you gain more experience. You're both just kind of working out the kinks right now. :]

If you're gonna go the keyboard route, do a little research on them first. If you get an inexpensive one, chances are the quality isn't going to be terribly great. They last, but they have their issues. I have one that I've had since I was about ten and it's still working pretty well. I think it's a Yamaha... Not sure since I've not played it in forever. :d But I definitely suggest that you go with the weighted keys. They don't quite feel the same as a legit piano, but they're as close as a keyboard can get.

I see what you mean. It does take a lot of practice and patience. I've been fiddling with my guitars since I got my first one when I was about thirteen. I've always loved instruments but my parents haven't ever been able to afford more than a year's worth of training and that was for the piano. Most of what I've learned for guitar was from middle school and from what I've learned online. I'm no Slash or Angus Young, but I wouldn't say I'm terrible when it comes to playing. lol I used to play for my church's worship team before I moved to sound tech.

Modnar-Redrosid In reply to jennifibber [2012-03-10 06:11:48 +0000 UTC]

Haha, my brother's cakes have been interesting so far. He thinks he might not have used enough soda in the first and it didn't rise very well. I would also live off baked goods if I could. I'm happy now that the store I work at has baked muffins (we've only just got to baking our own things (well, they're part baked then frozen, and we 'finish' baking them so they taste fresh)), and at the end of the day they get sold 2 for $2.

Yeah, we've got a 'keyboard' that is a few years old now. No weighted, not full size. It was fun because of all the vocalisations, but it was nothing compared to our Beale. I can do this rent-to-buy thing I'm pretty sure, so I should be able to afford something decent.

Yeah, piano's are quite expensive. I'm not sure how my parents afforded ours, haha. But we've had it for... wow, maybe almost 9 or 10 years?
We had a bit of an intro to guitar in highschool as well, but I wasn't determined enough to pick it up. Maybe one day, eventually?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jennifibber In reply to Modnar-Redrosid [2012-03-10 20:45:14 +0000 UTC]

Haha it's possible he didn't use enough soda. It also depends on the humidity and the weather. I've learned that when I bake things, they rarely turn out the same way twice. lol What kind of muffins do you guys make? *drools* I love muffins. :3 And 2 for $2 is an amazing deal.

I hope you can find something soon. I can't imagine that a rent-to-buy deal would be terribly expensive. But I'm no expert when it comes to things like that.

You should totally just get yourself a secondhand guitar and start picking away at it. It's relaxing when you can just sit there and make noise. I love it. :]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Modnar-Redrosid In reply to jennifibber [2012-03-11 01:22:25 +0000 UTC]

Possible. It might also be that we're baking near the beach and not in the suburbs, but who knows. They make 4 kinds, choc-chip, choc-choc-chip, blueberry and raspberry and white choc-chip. I'm impressed at the quality, considering they're supermarket muffins.

I shouldn't think so. At least it should be manageable. I'll go in sometime and see if I can find something that feels right anyway, and go from there.

Maybe, maybe. But money's a limited-ish (though I'm sure I could find something inexpensive that was okay. (But nevermind, I just remembered that my dad gave my brother his first acoustic, so that's at home if I want to use it )

I want muffins... so bad right now. xD Those sound amaaaazing.

Sounds like a great plan. :]

Oho, it's good to get a guitar that's already been broken in. And don't shy away from it when you break strings and whatnot. lol I've broken soo many. Just remember to keep your face AWAY from the fretboard when you're re-stringing and tuning. I snapped one across my friend's face once, and I felt sooo bad. Poor guy. lol

Modnar-Redrosid In reply to jennifibber [2012-03-11 05:47:00 +0000 UTC]

I think I may be getting used to them now, but buying less muffins frequently is not necessarily a bad thing.

/ouch. Haha, yeah, that's one thing. I'd probably just take it home for dad to restring!
