Wait, that's not right ... oh yes, you're that fantastic fic writer. I'm sorry if my response seemed off, but it's my generic answer and I wasn't all there when I sent that. Thanks for the fics!

. . . I didn't mean to sound rude, and I know I might've, on your Howl and Calcifer picture, but as it is I actually don't know what that is. :/

No, actually I have not seen it. I was too busy getting over the buzzkill that was the exclusion of Kevin Conroy from Batman: Year One. All in all though, it was a fairly decent film none the less.

Considered colouring them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr561 In reply to crusanite [2011-08-07 20:10:21 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have, actually. But I decided against it because one time I did, and it turned out to be such a horrendous mess that I just rage-quit at drawing for a few months. I don't have any of those PC programs(wish I did, they sound like a God-Send) and I'd rather not want to have to go through that particular experience again. So . . . yeah

crusanite In reply to Mr561 [2011-08-07 20:17:40 +0000 UTC]

Baw, ha ha ha, I know what you mean! I can't decide which is worse: MS Paint or coloured pencils... Not that I can colour, but pals of mine have recommended a tablet and GIMP (basically Photoshop, but free! Cha.) for such tasks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr561 In reply to crusanite [2011-08-07 20:38:58 +0000 UTC]

oooooh, GIMP so promising, but how much does a tablet cost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crusanite In reply to Mr561 [2011-08-07 20:45:08 +0000 UTC]

Eh, depends.
The one I've got was... Not cheap. But it works like a charm! It cost about £150, I'm not sure how much that is in dollars. There are tons for about 20 on eBay though! Don't loose the bits though. My brother broke my stylus, and that's cost 6 months and £40 D:

Love GIMP. *strokes*

Mr561 In reply to crusanite [2011-08-07 23:25:50 +0000 UTC]

Umm . . . could you tell me how to use GIMP? I'm a little lost right now . . .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crusanite In reply to Mr561 [2011-08-08 08:23:21 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha ha, sure xD
Have you ever used photoshop before? Like, at school, or whatnot?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr561 In reply to crusanite [2011-08-08 11:57:18 +0000 UTC]

noo, unfortunately not. That just happened to slip off my 10th (and now 11th) grade curriculum list and I never tried using at home.

crusanite In reply to Mr561 [2011-08-08 12:20:11 +0000 UTC]

Okay then, I'll give you the basics. Gimp and Photoshop contain all of the same aspects of MS Paint and Kid Pix and all those other crummy but fun arty programs, like the pencil tool, the paint tool, the fill tool, the crop tool,, the resizing tool, etc.
However, there are also effects you can recreate, like sharpening/blurring and image, adding a lens flare... Like one of those online photo editing sites (for a better idea just google one of those). So, it's a mixture between MS Paint and a photo editing site.
However, I find the most useful part of Gimp and Photoshop is the ability to use LYAERS. On MS paint, you'd draw a picture in black pencil or whatever, and then try to colour in between the lines as best you could without messing up the lines you drew. It almost never works, does it. Layers, if you think on a 3D plane (like in maths. Lawl. Maths.), are different images put on top of each other. That means your lines are an image, your colouring is an image underneath it, the shading is between the two... You can change the transparency of the layers to make one of these transposed images more or less see-through. Basically, you don't have to worry about screwing up your lines xD

Is it possible to do all of that to a scanned-in paper sketch or do I have to draw directly onto the computer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crusanite In reply to Mr561 [2011-08-08 13:05:49 +0000 UTC]

It's easier to do it, as you say, directly onto the computer, but colouring layers and effects are possible to do with a sketch: my avatar is an example of that.
