Yo, what's up! It's been a while! Even though I said that I was going to try to be on more often, I'm still horrible at coming back here :,I
So how've you been doing?

Ha, don't worry, I also used to keep saying the same but I never change.
2014 was a pleasurable year for me and I'm looking forward to this 2015 that just started. Do you have high hopes as well?

We're just a couple O'lazy bros I guess XP
Well, last year had its ups and downs for me, and it seems like 2015 is starting the same way. Honestly speaking, I just want to get through the year without having another mental breakdown
Then again, this year, when September comes around, I'll finally be a Senior in high school, so there's that to look forward to!

So how about you, do you have any big plans for the year, or are you just going to go with the flow?

I want to continue working on my project with the antenna buddies and also to learn Japanese this year, but I need to change my mindset or I won't get anything done. I think too much about the end results and this is counter-productive, people say that the best solution for procrastination is separating your activities into small goals and accomplishing them one by one, but it's hard to put that into practice when you're already so deep into the slacking off. But if everything worked out in 2014 then it's unlikely that 2015 will go too worse.

Now that I finished high school, college will be starting for me in April and I also will have to start working. My college is public-funded (as it is preferable here in Brazil) so its fees are not the matter, but the trade school I was in requires that we do some internship around. This will eat away my freetime. ;u;

Oh yeah, I remember them! You wanted them to be characters in a game of yours, right? And learning Japanese would probably really help in the long run since it seems to be becoming so prevalent in certain industries.
Hm... yeah that is a difficult mindset to get out of. Whenever I'm feeling like that, I just force myself to get it done or leave reminders all over the place. I don't know if it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot!
I do wish the best of luck to you in reaching all of your goals for the year, but it's a little early to start fretting so soon. You can do it, and I sincerely believe in ya bro!

Oh cool, really? Congratulations!
Anywho, I guess it would be a bit difficult to balance all of those things out, but I guess the best thing to do would be to just try and get as much personal stuff done as you can when you have the free time. But I'm sure that that's a lot easier said than done.
Regardless, I'm sure that you'll find a way to make it all work! And I'll try to support ya every bit of the way!

Indeed, I have been working in their game under the curtains for at least a year and a half, albeit at a slow pace. But hey, it took 4 years for Cave Story to be finished, and 2 of these years were actually scrapped away because Pixel rewrote the game from scratch halfway in. I had always some sort of personal one-sided rivalry with Pixel, because I was sure that I could make a game faster than him. There were some peers of mine who doubted that a good game could be made by a single man without taking a long time, and I wanted to not only prove them wrong but also top the indie games god himself in development speed, but now I guess that not giving up and having a good game actually made regardless of the time it takes will be enough of a triumph.

I want to learn Japanese for the mangas and animus haha but undoubtedly every new language under my resume makes it better looking. |D (I also only learned English to play games but it sure got me far) Another friend of mine also suggested surrounding myself with notes and it's what I plan to do, only not right now because I currently am away from my hometown and don't have access to all of my tools of the trade, but when I get back I'll be sure to put my remaining free time into good use. This is not an excuse to not do anything! :'D

Thanks for the best wishes (and sorry for the novel I just wrote)! Even if I don't reach my goals by the end of the year, I hope to have at least put fruitful efforts towards them.

Wow, that is some ambition right there! But I think you're right, even if it takes double that time, as long as you've got a good product at the end, then I'd consider that a success in the books! If it keeps you motivated, I'd say to keep up this rivalry with 'em!

Heh heh, well that certainly is one reason to want to learn! Personally, I just don't have the dedication for it. I couldn't even keep the French I learned in school with me, let alone a language I actually *want* to learn. But, I'm sure that you'll be better at me in those regards.Β
Alright then, just don't slack off on making the reminders either when you get back home. And that's the spirit, put every moment you have in life to use!

It's no problem, I think it makes it much more personal to make long messages like that! It bumps up the intimacy from just "people who know each other" to "full-on web buddies", and that's what I strive to achieve with all of my bros! I'm sure that everything will turn out to be okay. I don't doubt that the path will be rocky, but I'm sure that by the end of the year, you'd have made some great leaps in progress!

Mutoh In reply to gamebunny-color [2015-01-27 01:24:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that is absolutely right! But I better stay away from rivalries. I get too obsessed with them and that's not healthy, I always end comparing myself too much to others.

Of course, I plan to do a lot more with Japanese than just that, but that's the main goal haha. Of course, when learning a new language you ought to have a reason to put it into use or it will be for naught. I actually spent some of 2014 self-teaching myself French, speaking of which, and given its similarities to Portuguese and English I found it surprisingly easy to pick up, but because I found out that I have pretty much no interest on francophone culture anymore I'm not nearly as advanced in it as I could be by now. I used to play a lot of Motion-Twin games some 5 years ago and sometimes they weren't translated from French, it would have been useful back then.

That is indeed a really nice perspective, I actually like a lot long-texted replies. It's only that most of the time I use too many words to express myself over on the internet and I fear that it only makes my conversation feel long winded. Once again, thanks for all the hope, let's make 2015 an amazing year no matter the circumstances.

gamebunny-color In reply to Mutoh [2015-01-31 15:03:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, in that case, yeah that would be a bit of a problem. I'm sure that there's a way to do something like that without it being hurtful to ya. Hm, I guess that instead of comparing yourself to them directly, you can just look at them as inspiration for your own progress. I dunno, maybe that's actually worse. I'm just throwing ideas out there I guess.

Heh heh, yeah a goal would probably help out with that. I only took the class because I needed the credits to graduate, which was the case with most everyone there, but at least I tried~Β
But yeah, learning other languages is definitely helpful in the long run with being able to enjoy things in other languages and all that biz, it's just such a shame that another language can be forgotten so easily. But I guess if you don't put it into practice, it just sort of fades away, eh?

Nah man, it's cool. I mean, you're not adding it with fluff like I do. You're just getting your point across with a lot of words. It doesn't mean that the thought itself is that complicated, so don't worry about it too much. At least when talking with me, I really don't mind it.
Yay! That's the spirit! I know that we're both gonna make it in the end, so let's try to have each other's backs 'till then!

Hey Sam, really sorry for this so late reply! I barely checked my DA anymore, there's just no motivation. :/ But thought I wouldn't leave you hanging forever after checking my notifications today. Thank you retroactively for such lovely words. I unfortunately haven't had any progress on game development but at least I studied Japanese... sporadically, but I sure did!

gamebunny-color In reply to Mutoh [2015-09-09 00:10:49 +0000 UTC]

It's no trouble, I'm not here much anymore either. I just happened to log in 'cause I need to do something for a buddy o'mine.

I'm honestly a bit sad to hear that you haven't continued working on your game, but it is what it is man. I do hope that you'll be able to find the motivation once again to work on it, but until then I still hope that you're kind to yourself. I'm glad that you're making progress in other personal projects though! As long as you're doing something, then you're doing good, so I'm proud of you for that.

I wish you luck on wherever your future journeys land you, but I certainly hope that you don't give up on your game for good. Maybe in the future you could put together a small team to help you? I'd certainly do it if I knew anything about game design. "Teamwork makes the dream work" and all that. But regardless, good luck buddy.

Aw, thank you for all the kind words Sam! That's right, as long as I am doing other stuff if I'm not working on my game I'll be doing fine. I haven't given up on my game, I was just burn-out after working on it so much only to find out that I hadn't actually made much progress on it (like spending 5x time more fixing up bugs than actually implementing stuff). I have spent time reformulating the idea, trying to make it a simpler and more self-contained game, so that I won't have this problem anymore.

gamebunny-color In reply to Mutoh [2015-09-15 11:11:57 +0000 UTC]

Yep yep. As long as you keep some sort of motivation and striving towards an end goal, then you're living life the way it was meant to be lived.
That sounds like a good plan. Start off small and then work your way up. I have the same problem with being over ambitious, but taking things in smaller chunks (or even just a smaller project) always ends up better for me, so I'm sure that the same can be said for you.

Do you have a time table set up? If you pace yourself, maybe you won't burn out as hard as you do. (I mean, that creates a new emotional burden if you miss a deadline, but if you can maintain it, then I think that the pros outweigh the cons). But I don't know why I'm even suggesting it, ya didn't really ask for it .

Anywho, good luck with your new game plan. I'm sure that this will give you an easier time.
