# About me

I am a glass artist that specialises in fused glass (plates, pendants, earrings etc) and lampwork beads. I have also made lots of mosaics in the past. I also dabble in chain-maille, making my own jump rings out of sterling silver. Recently I undertook a spinning class so that I can spin my alpaca fleece.

Hi Marianne,

I've just been looking through your gallery with my mum, who's just starting out in the world of mosaics - we both think your work is fantastic! The amount of time and effort you put into each one is obvious, and they're a pleasure to look at.

If you don't mind me asking, Mum is curious to know what you use as a backing board, as a couple of mirrors that she's done have been extremely heavy, having used plywood and mdf!

Looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future .

Hi Jahamara

I always use mdf for my backing boards as it's easy for me to get and yes they are heavy. I use d-rings to hang the mosaics and each d-ring has two screw holes in it. They seem to hold quite well that way.

All my mosaics are designed for indoors as I don't think that mdf holds up very well outdoors over time. It can swell if moisture gets inside and then the tiles will pop off. To counteract this, I seal all sides of the board (6) with a mixture of pva glue (white craft glue) and water. I do this several times before I start mosaicing.

I wish your mum luck with her mosaicing.

Marianne

I love your gallery! Did you make up all of those mosaics on your own? Or did you get the ideas from other mosaics? Either way, they're amazing, but i guess you don't need me to tell you that... ^^
