Yeah, I was planning on drawing it a long time ago (pretty sure I have a page or two in my gallery), but I decided to not do it for a while. Reason being is that I don't think I'm skilled enough artistically to draw it, and since it takes place in Japan, I still have lots of research to do about the country itself. I don't want to draw the manga and have something totally inaccurate in it; that'd be kind of embarrassing.
For the time being, I'm planning it out (characters, stories, possible plots, etc.) and improving my drawing skills. Hopefully, one day I'll be comfortable enough to illustrate it.

School actually just got out for me ^^ I've mostly been studying Japanese (I'm almost done with the jouyou kanji!!) and hanging out with friends. How about you?? Work any more on your manga? ^^

Agh, I wanna study Japanese so much, even if it's just a side thing. My college actually offers a Japanese language class, but I don't have any room for it in my schedule. However, my friend is taking it, so maybe I can sponge off of him and his notes, or something. xD
I haven't done much this summer. I've visited friends a few times back in my college town. I tried job searching, but unfortunately, everything is filled up where I live. I'll have to try again when I head back to my college. Hopefully they can employ me on campus.
And I've been doing research and designing for my manga. I don't feel I have the skill to draw it yet, so in the meantime, I'm practicing drawing and doing other research for it so I can get the details as correct as I can. The research process is pretty fun. I love learning about other cultures, so it doesn't feel like work at all.

You should do it, mooching is worth it 8'D My cousin takes Japanese at her high school, and as a present she gave me her binder with all of her papers in it from her class that year. It was fun to flip through them x) But I still prefer reading Japanese manga as my favorite study method~
I'm not looking forward to needing to job-search. :/ Sounds like a bummer. Luckily I get employed every once in a while by the Performing Arts Center at our school, to give saxophone lessons :'D Anyway, best of luck with your search! Maybe you can take commissions or something. ^^
I feel the same way! I have a lot of manga ideas but I don't feel that I'm ready to draw one. Research must be fun! Are you researching Japanese culture in general? I'd love that 8D

He also has Rosetta Stone, so if his notes end up being lackluster, I could borrow that instead. I learned Spanish through both reading and audio cues, so it'd help more if I had someone talking to me in addition to written notes. Luckily, Spanish (and hours upon hours of watching subs) has prepared me for the pronunciation, at least. xD
It's a bummer to work, but I was looking forward to getting out of the house and earning a steady wage, as well as adding something to my resume. I should probably get back into Photoshop and start taking simple commissions soon. It's too late to get a job for this summer, but with commissions, I can do those even when college starts back up. I could probably get a few clients around campus, too. xD
Yeah, mostly culture in general and looking up specific things I'll be featuring more, like schooling and more of what an everyday middle schooler would live like. Once I get back to college, I can raid the school library for books, too. There are plenty of exchange students to ask as well, so I'm set for now. xD

Rosetta Stone would be neat, but I have heard that it only teaches you the most stiff and formal tenses in Japanese. It's hard to decide what to teach when there are so many different politeness levels in a language. So some good, raw manga or anime is a fun way to learn the other levels :'D I can point you in the direction of some unsubbed anime, drama, and Japanese TV shows if you'd like.
Getting a steady wage would definitely be nice But don't kill yourself if you've got a lot of schoolwork (once the year starts up again)!! Commissions could be easier or harder on you than a regular job depending on how much time you spend on them and how many you have. But taking commissions from friends would be fun :'D
It's great that you have so many resources ^^ If only we could just go to Japan and experience it for ourselves, that would be the best xD Just avoid work, go back to middle school for the sake of manga...! sigh.

Formal tenses are good for if I ever visit the country itself, but the great thing about anime is that the characters tend to use the looser, everyday Japanese. They actually say that using anime as a learning tool is bad for this reason, but if you supplement with something that introduces the formal speech, then it's not so bad. I dunno if this strategy will work, but can't say until I try. xD
An on campus job wouldn't be too bad and they work around your schedule. Most campus jobs consist of sitting around and taking names for events and what not. Even the more laborious jobs aren't really difficult, just tedious. But commissions sound a lot better. It'd keep me drawing and into Photoshop. Plus, I can decide how many to take on at a time, so I don't swamp myself with work. For starters, though, I need to get back into Photoshop... xD
I plan on visiting at least once in my lifetime, but that probably won't be till much later in life. And by then, it'll be harder to sneak into the schools and pass off as a student. xD

Go for it!! Getting exposed to both formal and informal tenses are important. A good in-between source is free podcasts If you have iTunes, there are a ton of Japanese podcasts in all sorts of genres, for all interests. So for the formal speech you could listen to news podcasts in the background while doing homework, and for more informal speech you could listen to a high school girls' talk show xD (I recommend Marimoeo! 3 High School Girls from Hokkaido x) )
That's true, I really don't know much about on-campus jobs. Commissions are fun, especially when the character designs are really good! I'd like to take commissions, but I can't find anybody who's interested xD
Hahaha, well, it's worth a try? xD
I'm going to see if I can go to college in Japan
But only if I can get a [large] scholarship....

Well, I managed to snag Rosetta Stone. Now to figure out how to work it. That, and I need the house to myself. I don't think my family will take kindly to me spouting off Japanese words throughout all of the lessons. xD And I don't have iTunes, but I'm sure there are plenty of talk shows out there, like the one you recommended. I'll get around to them eventually. xD
I don't either, but they're mostly comprised of fast food or desk jobs. I could easily take a later shift after classes end, and they'd definitely work around my schedule. I'd rather do commissions, though. I can do those on my own time and in the comfort of my dorm room. Plus, it is pretty fun getting to draw other peoples' characters. I don't like doing fanart so much, unless it's for a series I like, but hey. As long as I get paid, right? xD
I dunno, I haven't aged in years and I'm short. Just maybe... xD And what would you study overseas if you got to go? I know you could get a job as an English teacher, especially since you're going to be bilingual. There's always a big demand for English teachers over there.

I've never tried Rosetta Stone, but I'd like to hear about it once you figure it out! x)
Yeah, I'd rather do commissions if I were you, too x) I don't usually do much fanart either, but it's like you said, the money's worth it!! Hopefully it doesn't take the fun out of drawing. (It probably won't. It's good practice :'D )
Hahaha. I actually have been thinking about becoming an English teacher!! There's a great program at Temple University Japan Campus in Tokyo. Maybe I could go as an undergraduate for art, then afterwards go for the teaching English as a foreign language program ;w;

Well, it works but I lack a code to completely activate it. Guess I won't be able to use it for a bit. orz
Maybe I'll get requests for stuff I like. If I got to do commissions for series like Avatar or Evangelion, I'd be happy enough. xD
You should read English teacher blogs. There's one I check on every now and then called the "Gaijin Chronicles." The guy that updates it went to Japan to be a teacher a few years ago, and he recently got married and had his first child there. He can be a little raunchy with his posts, but he's entertaining and it's a good look into what you might experience there. It's hilarious what some of his students do to him. xD

I love Avatar! As in, the last airbender? xD (I like the blue people Avatar as well x) )
That blog sounds really funny!! I'll check it out when I get the chance.

I'll just need to get my friend to look at it and I'm sure I'll be able to get it working.
YES, Last Airbender. They're coming out with a new Avatar series. I saw the trailer the other day and now I'm dying of anticipation.
He doesn't update as much as he used to (and the newer stuff is more reflections on being a parent), but what he does have on there from the past is definitely something you should look into. Although I think if you became a teacher, your experience with students would be a little different. xD

Good, best of luck to you with that
Aaaaahhhhh my sister showed me the trailer for the new series!! I'm freaking out! Apparently like 80 years have passed, but all of a sudden everything has been modernized? Whut?
Hahahahaha, I looked at a few of his older entries. SO FUNNY. But yeah, I expect my experience would be different xD;;

Yeah, I guess once the world finally united, they were able to progress technology-wise. Sort of makes sense when you look at the original series. If you remember all the avatar statues they made in the Air Temple and then assume that each one lived at least 100 years, that's several thousand years that have passed before the events of Aang- and they're still in pre-history Asia. None of them were united, but put a little Zuko and Aang into the mix and you get steampunk. Plus, it may just be that one city that's extremely modernized. They haven't mentioned how the rest of the world is doing. xD
It's pretty funny seeing this guy. A huge black guy in Japan. I bet those kids had so much fun with him. xD

That's a really good point, I had never thought of that! I'm sure they'll explain everything in the series. I can't wait for them to release more information!
Haha, I'm sure they did xD He seems like he'd be such a funny teacher.

It's very interesting, definitely something I could see as a show on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network.
You've inspired me a lot. It's amazing to see how much attention you've gotten in such a short time. I remember dropping by this page back when it was just getting off the ground. In only one year, it's already at 200K+ pageviews! I think the work you and the artists put into Spirit Warriors really showed the other members on this website just how dedicated you all are, and it's nothing short of inspiring.
I'm switching to an art college in the fall, for an animation-based major, and seeing your efforts in this project makes me hopeful that maybe one day, I can create my own animated show after I graduate.

It's actually from YGO Abridged, from a video LittleKuriboh made with Vic to promote an anime convention. Of course, the joke in the video was the fact that Yami couldn't pronounce Vic's name correctly. xD
