Oh, it's a bit challenging, but this is where I learned it:[link]
My version is make your little buddy (preferably small, and doesn't matter what program) and give it a background slightly lighter than black. Take your image to Gimp. (download it here if you don't have it. ->[link] ) At the top of the Gimp software screen, click Layers, Transparency, Add Alpha Channel. Take the magic wand-looking icon in your toolbar and click your image. Then, erase the background. Save your file as a .png, (unless it's an animation, and for that, save it as .gif) and upload it to Photobucket or TinyPic. (~Rachael-The-Cat helped me with this part) The tutorial will explain what coding you use, but everything involves <*div id="barkbox*"> (no *s) If you don't go through Photobucket or TinyPic, you will only get a link in the corner.
