you'll like this:
my dell laptop bit the dust the other day (surprise surprise). so i got the warranty information from school and called the number on the papers.
i go through about an hour of tech support with a girl that sounded like shelly from south park. i started to get an idea that the only things she knew about computers were what she read from her little dell tech support script.
my first clue was: "so how many megahertz does your system have? does 350 sound about right?" (meanwhile she knows my laptop is still under warranty and was purchased last year).
i said "350!? no way, my computer isn't that old. i think it's about 2 ghz"
then later she told me she was going to check to make sure i have enough memory (which had NOTHING to do with the problem i was having, but i'm sure that's the script talking). she had me open 3 or 4 apps that i use often, so i did. i went one step ahead of her and opened the task manager and went to the performance tab.
i said "and you want me to check performance in the task manager right?"
she says "no, what i'm going to have you do is press control, shift and escape. what that'll do is bring up the 'task manager'. once you're in the task manager i want you to check under performance and tell me [blah blah...]"
eventually she gave up and gave me the old "well sir, i hate to tell you this but i'm completely clueless. according to my system your system is fine, which obviously isn't the case but i don't know what else to tell you..."
you get the point, screw dell. since i need a new laptop sooner than later i'm just going to bite the bullet and buy another one (custom built) from abspc.com.
it's aggravating as hell, but i can't help but laugh. at least it wasn't someone in india.

Dell has call centers in canada, india, and texas. the people in canada are the only ones you can understand or are any help.
Bu i agree dell has the worst tech support/ customer care out there. and they only have one computer i like (E1505).

better classes are coming next quarter though! no more math! i get operating systems! plural! that means i probably get to learn to use linux and unix and stuff! woohoo!
