thanks for watching! I like your comic by the way, if you don't mind me saying, I think it works best when you use conventional comic boxes, like this one [link]
Although, maybe its time to break the rules and I'm just too old now!

No, I know what your saying. For the few people that have seen this story so far in person, once they get to one of the crazy pages, they just kind of look at me and shake their head. I definitely see how the layout can cause someone to disconnect from the work.
Thank you very much for the feedback. I'm glad you like the comic!

I think if your going to have the panels laid out in a crazy fashion, like a crystal, it should be done occasionally, maybe to show lots of stuff going on in the same moment, that way it has some kind of purpose and is also a nice surprise. I myself can only do long panels that go across the whole page, anything else makes my brain hurt.

Orbital-Primeval In reply to DarkMechanic [2012-06-28 16:28:58 +0000 UTC]
I believe that's good advice. My problem is patience, I think. There are so many things I want to get to draw that I cram as many story elements on a page as possible so that I can go to the next page that I'm excited to draw. Honestly, though, my favorite pages are the ones where I dedicated larger panels to more meaningful scenes.
I like your idea though, and after I'm done drawing the fifty pages I planned for the Lightning Dog story, I may go that route for the next story.

have a look at the theory of golden ration (how artist make compositions and how its linked to nature), I think you'll find that quite interesting when it comes to putting images together. It was something I was going to try to incorporate into comic compositions but never got round to actually making any comics.
