I'm currently studying graphic design at Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht. Going to art school after this to become a teacher in illustration. I have tons of things I still need to scan and put in my portfolio, but I constantly forget.

Me too. Practice makes perfect. I have drawings from when I started out, but they're less detailed and they don't really look like the reference picture.

it's not bad! you used acrylics, right? that used to be my medium, and I know for a fact that acrylics are a bitch when painting people. seriously, finding and trying oil pastels was the best thing ever for me. I was not meant for acrylic painting, no siree.

Actually, I have no idea what I used. My mom gave me paint and I just used it. I have no idea what to use on what and all that stuff. LOL
I'll pay more attention next time, though, and try oil pastels as you do. Maybe it'll be better then.
What the big trouble is I guess is that painting is so different from drawing. With drawing I know the exact techniques to use for different kinds of shades and everything.. painting is so different from that and I think much more difficult. Because with drawing you can easily erase a tiny mistake.
With that, drawing asks for a different eye of focus than painting. Or so my artteacher once told me.

i completely understand. that's why oil pastels are great! they look like crayons, so essentially, it's a lot more like drawing. and much easier to blend and cover than with paints like acrylic.
I never had an art class, so I do my stuff kind of backwards, but I picked up a few tricks along the way.
