Thanks! Its all about finding your own strengths and taking weaknesses head-on. I get the most compliments on the areas I used to skip over cause they were too challenging.

It depends. A lot of the adventure time stuff was made using various textures where I would drop them into photoshop over an existing sketch and then use a select tool ( something more angular not just lasso and then cut out. Then I would mess with layer filters and opacity. Thinking back farther I dont think I used any exiting brushes on my flat works. The texture cutouts were a lot of work so in the end I kinda moved away from it but I had some textures that I had gathered that I bust out every now and again for some subtle detail on flatwork.
Also sorry for the late reply. I hope you have fun on some art adventures of your own. A lot of what I do was found through practice and many mistakes/less good art? its all part of the fun.

would you happen to use a graphics tablet when doing them? if so, may i ask what brand and if you have any knowledge on what is the best (beginner) tablets to get?

I've always used a Wacom. While they are the more expensive brand I feel as if its one of those things were the value of the object shows. I started off on a bamboo, which is a standard tablet ( no screen.) it not only lasted for a long time and was extremely portable but was still in fine working order when I did eventually upgrade. I now work on a smaller, slightly older Cintiq. I feel it has better response and flow than some of the other screen tablets I have worked on and it is a professional standard.
For starting out though I would recommend getting a smaller one without a screen. Its good training and a right of passage ( in my opinion) to work with that disconnect, though it is tricky at first. But it is cheap and durable. ( well, cheaper.) As for models now, I can't really recommend any by name. They have come out with a lot better stuff then when I first started, so look towards customer reviews. Things like response time, overall feel, and function. One of the reasons I like Wacom as a brand is their pends come with extra nibs and the opposite end is usually set to function as an eraser, like a normal pencil.

this was really of help to me, thank you, this may help me when purchasing the tablet.
I wasn't sure at first is it would be difficult to use a tablet, seeing how there is no screen, when drawing, not know where to place the pen and all, but I guess its something to adjust to.

Hello! I'm just a little deviant, passing through... but I wanted to say that I'm a huge fan of real-faker 's 'Welcome to Hell', and I love every character, but Zack Melto is actually one of my favourites, despite only being in a few frames! I know it's been quite a while since it was made, I've seen some of the art you did of him on tumblr, and honestly, I think he's pretty darn great!
