I sit here in my dusty chamber surrounded by shattered dreams lying forlorn and lifeless upon the worn wooden floor. All has changed.

I turn to the open window. The blossoming apple trees sway serenely in the warm summer breeze while whispy clouds float sedately overhead. I look upon my own paradise, yet now it is like ash to me. Such beauty means nothing to a heart-broken man.

I open the lowest drawer of my desk and brush aside a pair of plane tickets to Japan, though now I am in for a lonely journey. I pick up a small unassuming box and set it gently on my desk before opening. The desktop comes alive with dancing white light refracted through the five brilliant diamonds set atop the band of shining gold. "Guess I won't be needing this anymore" I mutter to myself as I return it to its box.

It finally hits me. A grief so deep that I cannot fathom its depth claws its way through my very soul and takes root. Tears fall silently down my cheek as I again turn to the garden. Its beauty brushes over me yet now I feel nothing for it. Those days we spent under the blossoms, dancing and cavorting through the spring flowers, we felt like the world had no hold over us. No longer.
