Hell, I don't even remember where this topic started...
That ain't spam - spam is mass email to solicit without being invited. I just respond to comments, as long as the conversation is civil (and it has been pleasant).

I've got TONS of data on why revolvers/ 1911's/ polymer frames/ large caliber/ medium caliber/ high capacity/ low capacity, etc. are "THE BEST". Some guys in the SF world (mostly SEAL teams) live on Sigs, others are diehard 1911 followers (several Green Berets I've met over the years swear by old slab sides), yet Larry Vickers prefers the combat reliability of a polymer frame (Mr. Vickers is a legend in both the SF world and in combat use of all fire arms, but especially with handguns).

I don't generally keep up on the latest Kimber, Les Bauer, or XYZ brand of top notch 1911's, so I must admit I haven't heard of an automatic firing pin - is that similar to the transfer bar on modern single action revolvers?

You've probably met old timers or maybe some younger guys who were taught by old timers not to load all six chambers in a SA revolver... thing is, on a modern SA you can have a round under the hammer and smack the gun's hammer with a framing hammer and not discharge the round. The transfer bar must come up to engage the firing pin and that only happens when the hammer is brought back to full cocked position.

I watched a guy at an IDPA meet clean up with a Beretta 92. He was a big guy and could easily stash that large frame 92 on his person without being conspicuous.
Range time and dry runs - solves a lot of issues.
One of the top Glock users would practice using a .22 conversion on his G17 then compete with the 9mm G17.

Just for fun: auto loader shotgun or pump? I've carried a Benelli M1 for years - no malfunctions. But our local SWAT guys like the old 870 cut down to a 14" entry barrel.
The gas auto loaders have issues in sub zero weather, the Benelli M1 (inertia recoil) is bomb proof until you start hanging heavy optics on the receiver (it'll tolerate a Sure Fire or a small laser but that's it).
To me, the only thing to hang on a shotgun is a light and maybe a shell carrier or speed tubes on the stock.

Well, a couple decades ago, Colt made their Series 80, which people dislike because the automatic firing pin system affected trigger pull adversely. Nowadays, Kimber guns come with them standard, and gunsmiths know how to make them shoot well. The only real thing is some find the reassembly process for them rather a pain in the arse.

Personally, I find the 1911 my favorite handgun, but I have to realize it's weaknesses. It's a big gun, doesn't carry a lot of rounds, and won't feed JHP and non-ball profile rounds without some work. Modern guns do better, but they're also $$$$.

I've been a pump shooter because that's simply what I've used since shooting clays in the Boy Scouts, but when I talk to people about HD I do tend to recommend a solid auto like an 1187 or 930.

THANK YOU SOOO(insert infinate O's) MUCH for your 12 page tutorial. I have read the first 248 pages of the Painter X manual & bought 2 books attempting to figure out what you showed me in a few pages. I am new to DA & don't fully understand the navigation. I found one of your pages in a search, then had to keep changing the #s in new searches to get the next page. Is there a way to see all of your tutorials in one place?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

R0tti In reply to EdensThief [2010-04-12 17:15:28 +0000 UTC]

You are welcome - I read almost all of Painter X and have a decent knowledge of Corel Draw 12, but neither manual or their tutorials helped...
I had to adapt a few tricks that I saw used on Adobe Photoshop tutorials.

You can go to my home page on DA and look at my gallery - I have each individual page in a folder in my gallery named "Tutorials".
