The environments of the Devil May Cry reboot are unappealing and very unimaginative. I mean, they literally washed the environments with way too many orange and blue hues, and it's clear that they have taken from many other, much better sources. It's just as uninteresting and dull as the rest of the game itself. It's more like, in order to make the environments, Ninja Theory just did the cut-and-paste route for all this. It's more like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, only swallowed up and regurgitated back out, and slapped with the Devil May Cry name on it.

DMC4's environment, however, is much better and more elaborate. The designers for the game made a fantasy setting, staying true to the rest of the original series, with a touch of gothic in it. The color palette is a lot better, and it doesn't hurt the eyes as much as the DmC reboot does. And it's crafted with a lot more imagination and immersion. It's so much more imaginative than the reboot. There are medieval-baroque-stylized cities, mountains, tropical rainforests, castles, and lots more. It is synonymous with the fantasy genre, and the fantasy genre is synonymous with imagination.Β

The environments in DMC4 really mesh together well, also. If you ever played the game, you know what I'm talking about. The designers for the 4th game really pulled it off in terms of visuals. Magic and fantasy are abound in DMC4. The Devil May Cry reboot pushes all that aside for hard and edgy, with Fox News all over it. And ugh, the reboot and its environment don't go we'll with the rest of the series at all. >.>

DmC: Devil May Cry is an example of a supernatural fantasy video game gone wrong, with lots of fantasy cliches abound. DMC4 shows how a great fantasy-themed video game is supposed to be done. Along with other factors (including the carefree Dante we all know and love), it's no wonder why the 4th installment gained so much popularity among fans of the original series and others.

Thanks for reading.

I am very sad to see a once beloved and innovative gaming franchise like Devil May Cry get ruined and so hated because of all this, so way to go Ninja Theory and Capcom for teaming up and giving us a Dante and a reboot we don't need and didn't ask for. From the heights of the third and fourth games, when it was still in its prime, and to the rancid past few years with the announcement of the reboot and a huge battle between the publisher and developer from the fans before its release, which culminated with a retail release of a bad-beyond-belief reboot and it bombed in terms of sales. The highly toxic venom spewed over the reboot would have melted everyone if so many people weren’t waiting for Bayonetta 2 instead. In a desperate attempt to regain the original audience that admired the original series, the final product came up with something far, far worse. Even the gameplay and the storyline and the characters were botched to the point you wonder what the hell everyone involved was thinking. Some lessons learned here, foremost being not to outsource any Japanese-made franchises to below-par developers in the US and Europe.

Devil May Cry was an instant hit for Capcom in 2001, with the first game (released on the PS2 originally defining the Action Hack-and-Slash genre and creating the Stylish Action subgenre. co-written and directed by Hideki Kamiya, who would go on to PlatinumGames and make Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 and Scalebound. The first game was marvelous before the second game (released in 2003) went off the rails. In hindsight, it was the first sign of what was coming. But the series stormed back with a phenomenal third game (with the viciously difficult original released in 2005 and the easier and content-packed Special Edition released in 2006) that had some awesome gameplay and the introduction of Dante's evil twin brother. The momentum was retained with the equally great Devil May Cry 4 (Which saw the series come onto a Microsoft console for the first time), with the best gameplay ever in the whole series, and despite being rushed out of the door, still remains true to the spirit of the original series. And that was it. The announcement of the reboot and the reveal of the drastically redesigned Dante in 2010 both shocked and angered many fans, and the next two years - from the devlopment to the game going gold before its release - were even worse, as they waged a huge battle between the publisher/developer and themselves. Classic Dante and the franchise both deserved better. A warning to all video game developers: When fans are openly hostile and angry at a video game series they once loved due to changes they don't need, you didn't stick the landing. You malfunctioned in mid-air and crash-landed on the ground.

Out of the designs of all four original DMC games, I enjoy the look of the feel of the 4th game best. It has really cool-looking 19th Century buildings, ancient evils, dark magic, demons scampering around, secret places, uniquely blended areas (a city, a jungle, snow-capped mountains, a castle), magical demonic beasts (Huge deities! Winged angels! Ice toads! Big lizards!), and all-around won't-happen-in-real-life events (Supernatural phenomena OMG)! It's like a true fantasy world - all this in which I described happens in this game! It's like being in a all-new Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting or a real-life dark fairy tale. And that's why I think the look and setting of Devil May Cry 4 is the most imaginative that Capcom has ever done in the series: They made it look like a pure fantasyland.Β

For the reboot, they ditched the fantasy setting of DMC4 and gave us a city that tries to kill people and an edgy look? Bah, I've seen that done before in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. A huge contemporary city with magic all around it. Why couldn't they capture the same imagination and magical place that the internal team at Capcom did? Ninja Theory made the setting of the reboot look more like a run-of-the-mill Low Fantasy urban area, trying to ape Bayonetta. I give credit and many points to Capcom and the DMC4 team for creativity and imagination. Ninja Theory gets nada for being blah.

DMC4 = Fantasyland-worthy.
DmC = BOOOOOOOOOORING

I canΒ΄t agree more with you... If I want "reality", I just go outside and see what happens in the real world and the real people. I looooooooove DMC 4 and, no matter what other say, I liked Nero and his romantic story with Kyrie. It was something that I wanted in he DMC franchise and I knew it would never happen with Dante (but, a Bayonetta cross-over could make this happen). ItΒ΄s true that DMC 4 feels like a half-made game (because it is and We know why... cof-Cap-cof-Com...) but still a great super stylish game... ALL THIS ROMANTIC-FANTASY-STYLISH genre is what also makes me super excited about Final Fantasy XV...
