Not really. Work has had me up at 3am daily and working 12 hour days-- plus the end of our racing season has been especially rough going and had been taking up free time.Β

Hello.
I just wanted to stop in and say thank you.
I am not sure how you will respond to this, but back when Abstract Gender had its own website, It helped me come to terms with who I am-if only slightly at the time.
Both your work and that Anne lady's Wotch comic were coping mechanisms I used during my last year or two of highschool.
Β I finally accepted who I really was after the first year of college (and a summer psychology class).Β
So, to all those horrible websites that call you a "shill" (I think that is the word I am looking for...), I say that your work holds a special place in my heart.
Thank you.

Thank you for that. I am happy that stuff I put out there were able to help people out and I do enjoy hearing from those that do say that it was a help. I'm quite humbled as I sometimes forget that there were actually lots of people who read and enjoyed the story. I think should get a double nod than since The Wotch was one of the three webcomics I consider an inspiration for me having stepped up.Β
If you haven't read it already, I hope you enjoy the WIP novelizarion of Abstract Gender that I have here on my dA. I've felt it's really enabled a better fleshing out of characters that hopefully people who enjoyed the comic will also enjoy this.Β

Novelizations are frequently a way to delve deeper into a character's psyche-- unless ypu go all Alan Moore and just make a book that LOOKS like a comic... not that I have any problems with that.

That's amusing timing. I had a day off and was determined to get back to work and was in the process of rereading the first 11 pages.Β

RayneShikama In reply to fish0029 [2014-12-15 21:02:45 +0000 UTC]
still breathing! Actually the important part (well-- I guess breathing is important) is that I am still writing chapter 7-- I wanted to restart the journals at the same time I post the next chapter-- thus that delay-- this chapter is REALLY being difficult to write-- My goal is to finish it before new years.

Hey, your comic's website appears to have expired.
Please get it back up and running so I can link people to it?

Ooh, very awesome. I was just in a discussion where AG came up and lamented how you were never able to get a stable artist and the story trailed off on Deviantart -- and here I find you've came back to it after all these years Nice work, Rayne.
Btw, I've been reading a manga called Shishunki Bitter Change recently that you might like. Kinda similar to AG in that its a more serious take on TG.

Hopefully you're enjoying the new AG.
How far in to the manga are they? Throw me a link and I'll check it out when I have time.

Unfortunately, only 7 chapters are translated atm, but I have both released volumes and it's good stuff. (I finally brought my moonspeak level up enough in the last year to read raw volumes, and I enjoy directly supporting my fav authors via importing)

And on the more wacky end of things, I've been scanlating one called Boku Girl that is a lot of fun if you don't mind ecchi/comedy/drama. Girl-Loki takes an interest in the MC being androgynous and ... ups the ante to satisfy her prankster god(dess?) needs.

First off. I'll state that everyone should blame you for me not getting shit done right now, lol
As for the first one-- I didn't really like that they were so young-- there isn't a huge difference between the boys and girls at those ages (other than missing equipment and socially) but they haven't even had puberty yet-- them on top of it they skip ahead three years and there seems to be no personality development-- it was the reason why I felt I had to compress the two years of AG in to one-- because eventually you'll start to adapt, regardless of how you may like it-- I felt Hazelton has done a great job of this in Misfile.
Boku Girl on the other hand I'm quite enjoying. The character development is enjoyable and I like the best friend not being a creepy perv (I'm up to the point of trying on the dress) and so far it's been tame enough as far as what they show that I can enjoy it without feeling awkward-- I'm hoping it continues in this way.

Well, it's in Young Jump, so the most they allow is nipples AFAIK. Although it also has rather graphic titles like Terra Formars and GANTZ if you're familiar with those.
As for Bitter Change: It has been a point of discussion elsewhere that the 2 MCs are so set on going back "any day now" that they've basically "arrested development" as it were. Afraid to reach out and make social connections, feeling I guess that it would be a betrayal to themselves? Part of me says it's writing that could be better, the other half says "My god, they're 9-13years old dealing with this on their own. It's no wonder they don't handle it in a mature/logical fashion."
Also, it's my perception that fans of TG genre are probably more mentally malleable, so would find such things "not a big deal" when others would.

RayneShikama In reply to Aereus [2014-05-10 14:35:33 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I feel the writing in Bitter Change just isn't enough to keep me hooked. And I just don't buy the whole refusing to adjust because 'any day now...'-- it's been 3 years-- that's BS. Kids adapt fairly well and they've now spent 1/4 of their lives in those bodies. I don't feel it's totally realistic to have them be that stubborn.
I'm a bit further in to Boku Girl now (field trip) and I'm still enjoying it. It likes to throw out a few suggestive things but has kept it tame enough to keep me happy. There was one bit with the rope I was worried thinking 'please don't become a tentacle... ' and the results were acceptable. I'm a bit curious where the story will go. It'd be a bit tiring if it just continues with mizuki trying to hide it. Some evolution in the story might have his secret being exposed and being forced then to try to adapt Kashimashi style but with hopefully more reluctance.

"Soon" The author left us with fairly large events right before their Golden Week holidays at the end of April, and those should be scanlated within the next week or two.

Thanks! It was really fun for me writing stuff that had no references from the comics and was exciting to see what people would think. I personally think chapter 5 was the best yet but maybe it's just because it's the 'freshest' material.
Hoping to start putting Unwanted Ryan into text today.
