Honestly? Probably not. Which is annoying, because I hate having unfinished work, just as I'm sure you hate not knowing the end to a story. But it's been a while since I played Oblivion, and Skyrim didn't re-enkindle my love for the elder scrolls series as I'd hoped it might.

Hello again, Reaper! How have you been? C:
I was wondering when the next chapter of Anathema or Unfortunately Enthralled will be up. Just curious~
Eh, my inspiration has been dead lately. I'm contemplating drawing a scene from Anathema and practicing more with my tablet. If only I could get the pen pressure to work.

Also, fan art would be much appreciated I have no idea why pen pressure won't work for you, it should if it's a wacom tablet. Did you buy it new or second hand?

Neria-Mahariel In reply to ReaperRain [2012-03-11 17:52:21 +0000 UTC]
Eh, I bought it second hand. It works wonderfully, except for the fact that for some reason I can't enable pen pressure. It's a wacom bamboo, and it did come with the little installation disc.

ReaperRain In reply to Neria-Mahariel [2012-03-12 02:11:40 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... when I got a new laptop I tried re-installing my old bamboo onto it, and pen pressure wouldn't work for me either. There's a good chance the software is outdated, maybe that's why. Try looking on the wacom website or help forums for an update, maybe?

Yeah, I went to the website and downloaded a driver for it. I can use pen pressure now, but it's not oriented correctly, I believe. Whenever I got to move the mouse along, it'll snap over to the corner of the screen. It's so irritating. >.>

No time soon, sadly. The next chapter of UE is half finished, but I haven't written any more. Firstly because of writers block, then a busy schedule, then the recent release of Mass Effect 3 means I'll be out of commission for a while.

Hello.
Um, I realise that the following is going to sound mighty weird, but I feel like I really have to say it.
I've been following your three Oblivion stories for more than a year now, and I absolutely love every one of them. The only reason I haven't reviewed any of them yet is because I need to replay Oblivion with the proper factional quests first (Black Hand, Fighters' Guild) so I can be sure of knowing what I'm talking about. The only reason I haven't faved any of them yet is because I don't feel comfortable faving anything I haven't reviewed.
The bottom line of all this rambling is that, if it hadn't been for your stories, I'd still be thinking that slash was, almost by definition, junk. You've really opened my eyes to what it can really be. Also, if it hadn't been for your stories, I'd never have started writing slash myself; more, I'd never have started writing at all. In other words, you've set me on the path to writing, and I cannot possibly thank you enough for that, not now, not ever.
Thank you for it.

Oh, goodness. I haven't had a response like that in quite a while, you have me smiling from ear to ear. Thank YOU for taking the time to comment
I'm glad to have changed your mind. I'm an avid slash fan myself, but I understand why it has such a poor reputation. The truth of it is most slash is written by women, and because men and women behave very differently, their male characters can seem a bit... off. It's also stereotypical but sadly true, that your average slash/yaoi fan is really more interested in pairing two hot men together and skipping to the sex than establishing any believable romance.
But, according to Sturgeons Law (here, if you've not heard of it: [link] ) 90% of everything is crud, and this is certainly not limited to slash. Luckily the other 10% is worth dying for and, well, I hope I'm in that 10%. There are also many other excellent slash writers if you do enough digging.
But it's wonderful that you're on the path to writing! I was going to offer beginner advice, but then I looked at some of your work and realised that you're already pretty good. Keep practising and learning from everything you do, you'll do just fine.

Yaaaaay! *happy*
I know. Believe me, I know. The amount of bad slash out there is simply staggering. (Also tonnes of bad het, but the slash tends to be even worse.) I can only wonder why there is so little femmeslash out there, good or bad. If it's true that ninety percent of all fanfiction writers are female, then surely there should be a decent percentage interested in female/female, too? *is puzzled*
As far as I'm concerned, yes, you are most definitely in that 10%. I'm very picky about what I do and do not read, and I love your stuff every time.
And yes, there are other excellent slashers out there. Like Das Mervin, Penmaron, Seablue Eyes, Sivaroobini Lupin-Black, Llaregyb, the list goes on.
*gasp* Wow, you're a Good Omens fan, too? If not, I really hope you become one. *puppy eyes* Good Omens. Is. Awesome.
Awww, so kind of you to take the trouble to look at my work, and want to offer advice! At the same time - probably natural - I'm so glad you already like some of my pieces. *jubilation!*
(Okay, I have to ask: which of my stories did you look at? It'll help me properly gauge things.)
Thank you again for replying to me!

I had a quick skim over at the epilogue, as I didn't want to spoil myself too badly. But your writing flows very well, it's descriptive without being purple prose.
I would give a more in-depth crit, but I'm not familiar with Good Omens. I googled it, is it the one by Terry Pratchett? He's my favourite author, so I'll be reading it soon enough (I'm currently working my way through his discworld series). Then I'll be able to read your story in more detail, I should think.
Most writers are female and straight, and a lot of them like slash in the same way that your average straight man likes lesbians. You'd find femmeslash wherever you find a higher percentage of male writers, which tends to be adult literature sites. Actual romance (not purely sex) stories are quite rare.
I always reply, unless I have nothing interesting to say. My readers, particularly the ones thoughtful enough to comment, mean the world to me, so I like to return the favour, you know?

Sister-to-the-Queen In reply to ReaperRain [2012-02-25 20:25:54 +0000 UTC]
...oh dear. Well, if you've only skimmed the epilogue, there still is hope. If you've read it thoroughly, you've already spoiled the whole of Crucible for yourself, since the entire outcome is summarised in that epilogue. Whew.
That said, thank you so much for saying that! I love doing description.
*nods* Yup. It's a collaborative work by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It is a-ma-zing. You'll love it.
And it's so awesome of you that, after having read the book, you'd actually be willing to read my work? *glee* Thank you!
I see. Kind of strange, in a way, but I think I get it. *thinks* Then what about people who try their hand at het, slash, and femmeslash?
Oh, I know. I always reply to any reactions I get. I've never understood why some authors don't do this.

ReaperRain In reply to Sister-to-the-Queen [2012-02-26 12:40:25 +0000 UTC]
There are a few who try their hand at all three, but most people have a preferred gender and/or style they like to write in.
Well, some authors might be shy, or others just take their readers for granted (sadly, I've met a numbers of artists whose egos could do with deflating). Sometimes I don't reply because I have nothing interesting to say. I'm like that with face-to-face conversations too, though.

Not sure if anyone's pointed this out but with Anathaema you seem to have predicted the rising influence of the Thalmor, as it seems far too fitting to me to Aluins character that he would be part of increasing power play from the Isles, though they may not have taken power in the Altmer homeland quite yet.... they will, thanks to their handling of the Oblivion crisis. He seems either the perfect supporter or certainly influenced by them, what with his superiority complex and obsession with eugenics.

ReaperRain In reply to Duskhaze [2011-12-20 12:26:28 +0000 UTC]
I know, right? I was playing Skyrim going “So the Altmer took over the Empire? ALUIN ”
Apparently the Thalmor had Ocato assassinated, though. That's immensely heartbreaking, but I guess that means he wasn't on their side, which would've been even worse.
It does throw the end of Anathema into question, though. I wanted to have a happy ending, but it seems redundant if Ocato is going to get murdered anyway.

Duskhaze In reply to ReaperRain [2011-12-20 15:08:09 +0000 UTC]
He could fake his own death and run off with modryn .... Hmm i wonder who could be mistaken for such an Altmer by a confused assassin... especially if Aluin reveals his nasty(er) side in being involved in said assassination plot... and becomes disposable himself instead. I used to like your Aluin too, but not so much anymore lol! Dunno how Ocato is meant to have been killed though; maybe that could give a chance for him to be only assumed dead. Heard he was killed but didnt know assassinated ; ; Please save Ocato!

ReaperRain In reply to Duskhaze [2011-12-20 16:15:16 +0000 UTC]
I still love Aluin for how clever and wicked he is, but he's definitely Thalmor to a T. I imagine his popularity will have gone down since people started playing Skyrim.
True, in the canon storyline, Ocato doesn't have Modryn as a bodyguard, so it's technically an AU story. Still, I'd like some sense of continuity over to Skyrim. Ocato could fake his death, but would he really be able to watch his empire fall without trying to intervene? I don't think he could.
The more I think about it, the less likely a happy ending seems. Either Ocato dies or he watches his empire crumble. Neither of them are particularly cheerful. It's saddening, because I really did want him to live happily ever after.

Duskhaze In reply to ReaperRain [2011-12-21 06:53:01 +0000 UTC]
Im not quite sure when Ocato is supposed to have died though. If the books The Infernal City and Lord of Souls are taken as lore still by Bethesda, theres still that stuff to come from 4E0 (when martin does his thing) onwards. As i understand it the Thalmor came to power after being a background group in the Isles, only after the Oblivion crisis thanks to their impressive handling of the gates over there. So theres still Mede and his bandit armies to take power over the Empire, then at least 18 years after theres the events of the two novels with Medes son a main character. Not sure when exactly after that the Thalmor do their evil bit with their invasion and the Great war.
As for continuity I guess history wouldnt nessesarily know about his and modryns relationship, and i dont know if modryns fate is covered at all by skyrim. He describes himself as 'old' (for a mer?) and mentions retirement in Oblivion, so maybe that would explain him at least. Not to forget Ocato will already 'lose' the empire to Mede, when he forces his way to power over the by then fairly fragmented Cyrodiil. But yeah, dunno what Ocato did in the years after Titus Mede took power until the Great war, or what even happened between him and Mede when he took power...
I guess need both an accurate timeline plus gotta check that damn in-game book for the details lol

ReaperRain In reply to Duskhaze [2011-12-21 13:14:45 +0000 UTC]
According to the USEPwiki, Potentate Ocato is assasinated in 4E 10, leading to variosu fighting and backstabbing over the throne until 4E 17 when Titus takes over the city, so Ocato was long dead by that point.
The Thalmor seize control of the Isles in 4E 22, so they were still a small group when they killed Ocato. Books mention Ocato being 'particularly interested in the Thalmor', so I assume he recognised them as a threat and used his political influence to keep them from rising to power.
That gives Modryn and Ocato's relationship about 10 years, which is pretty much nothing in mer years assuming they still have extended lifespans. It's not looking good

What he did was an act of desperation. Whenever someone is backed into a corner, and they don't have much choices left, they turn to things that they wouldn't usually do. It's sad. :/

ReaperRain In reply to Neria-Mahariel [2011-04-23 23:18:24 +0000 UTC]
It didn't make any sense for him to be backed into a corner if he had Hawke on his side. He didn't need to use that last resort, he kicked qunari backside without it. But Meredith goes mad either way, so Orsino had to do the same for the sake of equality.
Still... he deserved better.

Neria-Mahariel In reply to ReaperRain [2011-04-23 23:36:35 +0000 UTC]
I agree. What I am thinking, is since Meredith had the lyrium idol right across the room from him, maybe it affected him a little bit as well? Since the idol made both Meredith andBartrand go mad. They were both in direct contact with it for a prolonged time, but Orsino was just very close to it, so maybe it didn't affect him as much. Does that sound even plausable? O.o

ReaperRain In reply to Neria-Mahariel [2011-04-24 07:19:16 +0000 UTC]
Possibly, but mages don't go lyrium-crazy as easily as non-mages do. It was meant to be the general stress and anxiety of his job, his hand in what happens with Hawke's mother, the panic that he was going to die... I think it could've been written better though. We should've seen more mental decline before he snapped.
Better yet, there should've been a way to talk him out of it. Same with Meredith for equality, I guess.
