# About me

This used to be a side account for my photography as opposed to my digital art, but it's all I have time to update now since I started drawing mostly my own OCs and not so much fanart. Consequently, I haven't updated my art in a while...

I recently won a Doll, So I'm waiting on her getting to my mailbox, and oh god. I need to make her clothes. Thankfully, I can knit, sew, and crochet. Maybe if I get good at it, I can make clothes, both for this doll, and others and sell them. The weaving in ends with these tiny stitches will be hell though...So I'm sorry if I blew up your notifications, I'm just preparing for her to get here. Gonna have to clear out an entire shelf or two. But who needs books?Β

Thank you very much for your tutorials. I have zero sewing skill and my one and only bjd needs something to wear. If you happen to know how to make cloaks or boots, that's something I'm curious about. I thoroughly enjoyed wandering around your gallery!

Thank you so much! That's really nice to hear!! I hope my tutorials work for you and your BJD's wardrobe can expand!
I have no idea how to make boots (or any shoes, except sandals) but here is a tutorial for it that I've never tried: scargeear.deviantart.com/art/M…
I'll keep a cloak tutorial in mind too! That should be fairly straightforward.

Sorry for all of the questions and comments, but here's another one. x_x
I just want to know, I'm planning on getting a BJD, and I've heard a lot about taking good care of them and things like that. I'm for sure not going to do anything careless, like leave them at a place where they could fall from or in direct sunlight, but should I treat them very much differently from any other expensive-ish doll, such as an American Girl doll? I've heard that we shouldn't touch their face-ups when playing with them and things like that (which will honestly be hard for me to resist seeing as how beautiful they are XD), and also to not put them in bright or dark clothing since it'll stain. (Personally I'll feel bad to leave them nude when I'm not using them XD)
Oh, also, are they very fragile? I feel a bit like an idiot since I'm not exactly sure what resin is like.
Thanks!

It's totally fine!Β
I know some people undress their dolls and put them in white pillowcases for storage when they're not being used, and some people (like me) leave them dressed and sitting out on their shelf (or in my case, their couch) all day, so I guess it really depends on what you want to do. My house is really dark anyway and I usually have the shades pulled in my room, and when I open a window I'll move a chair in front of them so they'll still be in shadow. As far as staining, jeans are the only real culprit for me, and I've never had a stain I couldn't get off with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. They're super cheap and super useful, I use them all the time just for regular BJD cleaning too. Just sometimes a knee will turn slightly blue if I haven't changed their jeans in a while, and a Magic Eraser will take that right off. About faceup touching, I know fingers carry oils and oil eats resin in great quantities, but if your faceup is sealed with Mr. Super Clear, occasional touching of an eyebrow as you adjust their bangs or something shouldn't be an issue. Resin durability differs from company to company--Theorie and Rodya are sort of thin, not that I've had the opportunity to test how breakable they are, but Prosper once had a terrible fall and scraped his arm on a rock in 3 places (very, very tiny places, but it still just about killed me). He also has a scuff on his forehead that was so slight I didn't notice it for months. His body is from Popodoll and his head is from Immortality of Soul, and DANG, his head is durable. It's so thick. Much thicker than the resin in his body. I think as long as you don't drop them from a height, you should be ok.
And if you want to know more, Den of Angels is the best place to learn about BJDs. It's an invite-only forum, but if you want to join I can send you an invite if you note me your email address.
I hope this helps!

Thank you! This helps a lot. Whenever I ask on other websites someone who has never actually gotten a BJD answers and, only looking at how much these dolls cost, tells me the exact opposite of what you just did. XD
I got a new cubby thing (don't know what else to call it) in my room, and I'm planning on making one of the cubbies into a little doll room for when I get one. My room is sunny so I'll probably make cute little curtains for the cubby to draw whenever the sun is particularly shiny.
Well, I guess you could say Prosper has a THICK HEAD! heh... that was bad... but he is a bit conceited, you gotta admit...
Sure, I'll send you a note!
Also, how much caution should I use when "roleplaying their characters"? (long way of saying I'm playing with dolls. XD)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RodianAngel In reply to PonyPlorta [2015-03-01 18:48:57 +0000 UTC]

You're kidding--people who don't own BJDs answered you?! That makes very little sense. XD
A cubby sounds lovely!! It seems like a much better setup than I have. You can just close the curtain on sunny days, I have to put a giant fuzzy chair in the middle of the room.
Oh yeah--I guess Prosper came by his thick-headedness naturally then. It's all the sculptor's fault!!
Idk about roleplaying--you mean how much should you tell people? I'm way more open about how much I treat my dolls like real people when I'm online, as opposed to telling people in person; "why yes, I give them Christmas presents and scold them when they're not holding a pose correctly, and I'm not ashamed to say Prosper slept right next to me for a few days after his awful fall, so he would know I was really sorry." Deviantart seems to be more accepting. I mean, I know they're only resin, but they look so darn real! It feels rude to call them 'it' instead of 'he' or 'she!' X3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PonyPlorta In reply to RodianAngel [2015-03-01 21:43:51 +0000 UTC]

I knew for a fact that one of them did! x_x XD To be fair they did look up a little bit about how to take care of them, but I sure don't trust that over personal experience.
Giant fuzzy chairs are cool! XD I got the cubby set up yesterday. My Barbies (who look nothing like Barbies anymore) are currently residing in it.
Hmm, well, at least having a thick head prevents you from getting hurt- in more than one way! X3

I mean that and also if I should be REALLY careful while actually playing with them? Like, even when I was really little I never broke any of my old dolls, but is there anything I should beware of while playing with these beauties called ball jointed dolls? Not gonna be roughhousing them or anything- just gonna be moving them around and posing them to act out their story. So probably what lots of people do but don't wanna admit they do. XD

RodianAngel In reply to PonyPlorta [2015-03-02 22:03:52 +0000 UTC]

I sometimes have to look up BJD maintenance too (usually about Mr. Super Clear safety...heh), but experience does sort of end up being a better teacher. Congrats on finishing your cubby!!
On handling them, my #1 piece of advice is to be careful standing them up on hard surfaces, like concrete. I see some people with beautiful photos of BJDs just standing in the middle of nowhere, not propped up against anything, and in positions it looks like it'd be difficult to get them to balance in, and it blows my mind. I've never had much luck getting mine to balance right. If I'm going to be shooting a picture from the waist-up, I'll usually have a short box behind them, propping them up, where you can't see it. XD And each BJD moves and balances in a different way, so get used to what poses they're good at and the ones you have to baby them on (like Prosper can bring his hand to his face no problem, but Theorie doesn't always want to XP). And I've heard that fingers can snap off if they snag on clothing or something, but that has never happened to me (thankfully). That's all I can really think of. They get less daunting once they've arrived and you've had them for a week or so!

Mkay, thanks, that helps a lot!
Ahh, I'm not sure if I'm gonna make my BJD (once I have her) into my original character or just make a new personality for her. Probably the latter since the faceup looks nothing like any of my OCs. XD

RodianAngel In reply to Slimi-kin [2014-11-12 21:39:37 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! It's no problem, thank YOU so much for liking them! Which sculpt are you going to get??
I've read about people who undress their dolls (clothes and wigs both) and put them in pillowcases for storage when they're not being used, so I guess some people do that. Mine are always dressed and sitting on their couch in my room, and if I want to open the window shade I move a chair in front of them to keep them out of direct sunlight, so I guess I'm a little more laid-back than other owners. It works well enough for me and they're staying in nice condition, though I've only had my first boy for a little over 2 years. Maybe you should start out extra careful and see how it goes first though? It took me a while to get used to taking care of BJDs, but not THAT long.
As far as clothes go, as long as the material doesn't stain just from momentary contact, I'm not too concerned about leaving it on for weeks at a time. Jeans are the biggest offenders for me, but even if I change my boy's blue jeans to black ones affter having them on for a month and his knees have gone slightly blue, a Mr. Clean Magic eraser has never failed to take the color right off. For wigs, I just always get a sillicone wig cap and they wear that constantly under their wigs. It helps keep the wigs on too, and they're only about $3 on ebay so they're a great investment for only a couple bucks!
Hope this helps!

No problem! They're great!
I'm not 100% sure yet. I'd like to take
my time choosing and find a doll I love.
Right now, I am very interested inΒ Giselle
from Little Monica.Β I'd like one at around 60cm in height
becauseΒ I personally love the look of the taller ones.
Thank you for the advice! I'd love to leave them
out so I can see them, but I have a little brother so
I don't think it's a good idea to leave them where
he can reach haha.

I like sewing, I'd love to make my own outfits and
I love dark clothes so that's good to know
So I could just buy a Mr. Clean Magic eraser
from ebay too?

Thank you again! ^^ <3

Oh wow--she's beautiful! I've heard of Little Monica but I wasn't familiar with her sculpt. 60cm is my favorite size too, at least so far. I've never had any MSD sizes, and my tiny one is adorable, but so darn top-heavy! XD It's no problem, I'm happy to help! I wish I'd had someone to ask stuff when I was starting.
I just got my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser from Walmart, but I'm sure you could in theory find it on ebay. They're only a couple bucks too. It's mostly a kitchen cleaning thing you should be able to find in any cleaning aisle, but it's totally safe for resin.

She is lovely, I'm now 99% sure
I will choose her. Little monica make
lovely sculpts and I've read some really
good reviews ^^
I was going to get an MSD because I had a
smaller budget, but then I saw the bigger
ones and fell in love with them haha.
Ah, we don't have walmart in the UK
I've checked it out, I can buy it from
Amazon or ebay.

Well thank you again for the help!
Very excited now haha < 3
