hi!! I absolutely love drawing stripes, and try to focus on a lot of naturally-occuring stripe patterns, but I don't directly reference off of them.
So i would study references like these c2.staticflickr.com/4/3108/316… or like dreempics.com/img/picture/Apr/… and then, keeping in mind the general shape of the body of the cat i am trying to draw I keep in mind the trademark patterns of stripes, while still adding a unique flair. 
So, Malika is a mix of a classic and mackerel tabby for her stripes, and Quicksilver is a bengal tabby.
So basically, keeping in mind the naturally occuring tabby patterns, i like to mix the different styles of stripes to get unique and weird looks!
Sorry if i rambled, i just really like stripes omg
