Haha, that is right. It's so hot here right now.

Oh man, I've really been wanting to go out and do that already. I live out in deer valley. I got one pretty good one when I was in Scottsdale last August. Haha, well I sure hope I don't get struck. Might be the high point of my day but dang. I love how you put that though.

SandTiger In reply to mooboy [2006-02-07 14:56:47 +0000 UTC]

It's not so bad down here in tucson. Though we have nothing to do. Phoenix is much more entertaining. However, we actually cool down here at night, and our pavement does not boil in the summertime

Boiling pavement is what it's all about. Nothing says fun than getting 3rd degree burns from walking on your driveway

Fabulous first round of pix man. I hope you don't think any critique/suggestions I have given is out of place or too much. Remember I'm just a b'ginner myself, so any thoughts should be taken with a grain, and I can easily be asked to pipe down.

Truly though - great pix. I'm looking forward to the next lot.

Best, tns

Hey well thanks for the great feedback. I'm getting a few queries now asking about my night pics, so I'm thinking of maybe doing a journal with a few tips alomg with the caveat that I'm really just a novice. First cam I ever owned was a 2 MP I picked up 18mth ago, then the 350D 6mth ago. However - I think the journal might be interesting from the point of a total novice working through many mistakes to hopefully a few so-so pics. I really only think I'm 15-20% of the way to being truly happy with a photo sofar The only way is up though.

Re: yr query - I split between M and Av depending.. anything over 2 seconds usually I shoot M.

Until I knock out a journal, here's 2 quick tips I've gleaned. 1st, Find your lens(es) sharp/sweet point. All lenses have them - even a 3MP compact. Usually a few f-stops up from widest. That 18-55 you got with the canon is wide at 3.5 - so start looking from 7.1 up. 10, 11 and 13 is better. Its on a tripod at nite, and if you don't need quick exposures, then stop down for crispness. 2nd - don't look at my junk for inspiration - go look at some ppl who have taken night photography out of mundane urbanity and into magical, neve- dreamt-of places. Have a stickybeek at 'Nocturnes Night Photography' [link] and moreover - my hero at Cambridge in Colour [link] The last guy is a genius - if you like technical explanations he has some of the clearest, most reasoned tutorials on achieving perfection in night pics I've seen. Hell - look at his pics! They still make me lightheaded each time I see them. Let the fun begin. Good luck, tns.

I have to say, after only being signed up here for a few days, the overwhelming attitude of everybody is so positive. I love this place.

I went out and took some pictures of the Desert today. It's Christmas eve, but yet the high was 80 degrees today.

If any of these pictures turn out at all, ill post 1 or 2.

Peace
