Tips, hmmm... Be prepared to re-do things a million times and find a great sealer 
No but really it is so very individual for everyone. For example I originally tried using acrylics but quite quickly realized that I just can't make them work. As soon as I found watercolor pens things started working out. Find a tool that fits your hand and then just go with it

As I'm from Finland I think that the products are a bit different here. I use a matt varnish originally meant for miniatures. Something called Army Painter Anti Sine
