i have a cornsnake but unsure of the type.i think she is normal. plz tell me. go to my gallery and go to the folder named Colorado

ShadedRain In reply to ColorBug [2010-08-21 08:21:27 +0000 UTC]

Either normal or hypomelanistic. Hard to tell if those saddle borders are fading or not.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ColorBug In reply to ShadedRain [2010-08-22 01:24:35 +0000 UTC]

her eyes aren't red and the boarders are thin black and a very thin white.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadedRain In reply to ColorBug [2010-08-22 21:26:07 +0000 UTC]

Hypomels don't have red eyes. Hypomelanistic means the black gets less and less with age.

Cheezyem [2009-09-04 19:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Hey, Ive been admiring your knowledge on corn snake care and especially morphs.
You also seem to be good on growing snakes after having some slow growers.
I posted this on the net once, but is 2'6" a good size for a female yearling being fed on two adult mice a week?
I just wanted to know if she has the potential of reaching 5' or more?
Thanks a lot <3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadedRain In reply to Cheezyem [2009-09-05 10:52:27 +0000 UTC]

That's a good size for a yearling, but you probably won't get any corn to reach 5' or more. I have never, ever seen one that was over 4.5'.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheezyem In reply to ShadedRain [2009-09-05 22:55:54 +0000 UTC]

Thats cool(:
But odd, especially seeing as the record is 6'
I guess people exaggerate snake sizes and even potentials a lot.. especially with pythons....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadedRain In reply to Cheezyem [2009-09-06 09:43:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, records and theory aren't the common thing. It's not necessarily exaggerated... just doesn't happen every day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheezyem In reply to ShadedRain [2009-09-06 15:29:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i realise that ^^"
But i still dont understand how the care sheets can say you might have a 33' retic on your hands should you buy one... i know that they are the longest snake but 33' lol..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadedRain In reply to Cheezyem [2009-09-07 02:54:45 +0000 UTC]

I'd rather prepare people for the "worst" than letting them think something might stay little. And in the case of the retic, there isn't much difference between 20 and 33 feet considering the temperment.

thanx for the dvice *thanx alot*
my gerbil died recently after extremly mysterious causes and left her sister alone is it possible to give her a friend , we tried to once when the other was alive but they didnt like her , but we didnt scent them as you said , if only i knew

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadedRain In reply to ILOVEEXPERIMENT626 [2009-05-05 19:40:43 +0000 UTC]

It is possible. If she won't accept a female, a male might work out better. Female gerbils are the dominant ones.

ILOVEEXPERIMENT626 In reply to ShadedRain [2009-05-06 17:04:35 +0000 UTC]

oh ... but we couldnt cope with breeding , she is about 3 , we tried mixing the both of them in nov - last year, you think if now shes on her own she might want company and accept another female?

ShadedRain In reply to ILOVEEXPERIMENT626 [2009-05-07 05:51:13 +0000 UTC]

I've never had one breed that old. Even with a young male.
She might.

Life expectancy for a gerbil is 2 - 3 years.

I know it sucks, but everything dies eventually.
Life expectancy of a hamster is the same and the world record for a hamster is 10 years.

He still doesn't look orange enough to be an okeetee. Beautiful though.

Wolf-Ashes In reply to ShadedRain [2009-04-28 05:10:52 +0000 UTC]

well, ive been told hes an okeetee by one vet and the reptile breeder where i got him, but ive also been told he is a normal by another breeder, so i guess ill have to wait till hes bigger to know for sure...and thank you.
