Hahaha.  Life in science is going well.  Got my PhD and now manage a small  lab that breaks down chemical weapon stockpiles in the US.  Regulations always slow down our work, but it's rewarding nonetheless.  Still dabble in flash, and by that I mean I crack open the program at least once a year, but now focused on just making music to scratch my creativity--it's a lot less time consuming and I can hear my stuff while I drive to work!  I recently got myself a pet--a little black tabby that reminds me a lot of your icon now that I think about it.  I had a great 8-9ish years as a flash animator!  It's kinda weird how it doesn't feel that long ago since I "retired".  I think if there was a documentary on newgrounds, or just the underground scene of flash animation back in the hey day, it'd be really cool to see and reminisce about those days.

I honestly thought Don't Trip 1 and 2 along with The Love I'm Searching 4 looked like the works of a genius prodigy. Hell I still do. The way Don't Trip used FLCL music was telling in that it was more than a surface level influence; her more 'serious' music videos were full of a very similar kind of earnest atmosphere, thoughtful symbolism and wonderful directing. I'm actually making a video about how amazing they are.

PS. hey NCH I freaking love your /v/-rage.swf flash and think it's your best work to this day. Such fun Kanada-school animation you did in that one.

Thank you for mentioning the Don't Trip series.  Hahaha, thank you for remembering it, and I mean that sincerely.  It's really a series that's close to my heart.  When I started animating, I didn't know what I was doing so I tried to emulate whatever professionals did (I made storyboards on yellow post-its even).  I think I finished or was still working on a really strictly constructed but ambitious project (Pick Up) and just wanted to do something fun--that was back when FLCL came out and I was listening to The Pillows.  
I wanted to make a song around "Ride on Crusing Star" (I think that's the title) but then HotDiggetyDemon came out with something using that song and that dude was my idol back then.  I didn't want to tred on his turf because I'd never be that talented--he was really so far ahead of most of the artists on Newgrounds--so I was kinda down on myself, trying to figure out something I could do while going to school.  And then I was coming out of class and I was hearing "I think I can" by the pillows and... suddenly I felt so pumped!  It was like, even if I'm not as good as my idols--doesn't mean I can't try!  I didn't even like the song but I thought it'd be cool to just try doing something my own way right then on the spot.  So, I went to the computer lab at my school and started the project right there off the top of my head.  

I wanted to do a fight scene but I didn't know if I could animate two bodies at the same time--so I made one of the bodies a giant pill.  Things just sort of spilled out from there.

This is UNMEI had more or less the same thing, at that time I was more into fighting video games (or at least watching them, I was never really that good), big robots, Edgar Wright quick takes, Red Dwarf, and girl power at the time.  A lot of stuff that came out of that was just like... "What would be a cool scene to try next"/"What things do I like can I throw in now?"  It really was a passion project that combined all of my favorite interests at the time.  

I made The Love I'm Searching 4 the summer before I started grad school when I was feeling like... I want to be a scientist, but I don't really think I have it in me.  But I'm faking it until someone else finds out.  I was in a deep well of insecurity and I wanted to express that somehow.  So I took the characters from Don't Trip, who at that point were always the anthropomorphized embodiment of my feelings, and tried to illustrate that--one of the girls wants to be a conductor, one an artist, the other wants to play music, and another a dancer.  It's all subtle but powerful wants and they hide it with bullshit attitudes.  It's was me at the time, exactly 100%.  I don't think I ever made anything so vulnerable.  It's sort of like writing a love story for someone and giving it to the whole world.  Or purposely peeing your pants and going to work.  Hard to describe.  It was just a weird thing making something like that for over a year, constantly seeing you satirize your own insecurity like that, and during that time I did a lot of soul searching.  I was trying to find the love I had for myself, plain and simple.

Finally got the degree, and am doing pretty good now.  Really appreciate the comment!

oh gee lol /v/rage.... gee thats like the last 4chan related stuff I've ever did before droping my involvement with the site...also 3angledblue(orginal creator of the rage /v/rage guy comics etc) did his own version which was more superior which made my kinda moot.

Do what you want but god damn man don't be upset over being featured on ED, it's pure cancer and it brings way more idiots than this place. I've made troll edits in the past on their "QUALITY" page featuring a bunch of smear frames and whatnot from really well animated scenes time to see if the userbase notices and lo and behold they didn't and I came across people on /a/ unironically posting them.

Edit: that article was written by a moron who used "RULES 1 AND 2" in freaking 2011 hahahaha

well wasnt really affected by the ED article but it prompt me to kind of stop geting that involved with the boards. if I would still be involved, it be mostly to /m/ only as its the only board this days thats my go to board on that site.

well anyway the climate of 4chan has change so vastly this days its kinda really hard to comprehend so it was natural I moved on from there I guess.

it is now almost impossible to do an "update" to 4chan city to suit the current state of that site anymore since its so hard to comprehend or take note of everything happening this days, apart from major milestones where not-zuckerberg moot sold off the site and that japanese guy taking the helms of the site.
