Glad to help, even though I'm a self-taught photographer.
First of all, get a good camera. Nikon or Canon (I'm a Nikon head) but doesn't need to be a classy DSLR (camera with removable lenses) camera. Nikon Coolpix or a cheap Canon camera can satisfy your needs. If you hit the lottery or something, I recommend a good Nikon DSLR camera like the Nikon D3200 (my preference) or something. I also recommend learning the "triangle", which is ISO speed, aperture, shutter speed. To avoid the technical explanations, learn how to use and take advantage of light in a scene that you're taking pictures in (since the amount of light in a picture will actually dictate how sharp, blurry, clear, or accurate your pictures are). Other than just taking the photos, get a photo editing software. Doesn't really need to be photoshop CS6 or anything, but one where you can add filters or edit the hue and all.
But other than that, just be creative. You can not know a thing about photography but be good at it.

Hey there n.n Thanks a bunch for your fav on my photo. After reading your deviantID, I must say it is a shame you weren't there on that plane (with window seat of course). Hell, it was like magic - flying between those two layers of clouds like that... Siiigh. *dreams off*

You're probably right about that. Pictures taken out of an airplane tend to be my favorite on Deviantart because they're downright beautiful and surreal of course. I haven't flown on a plane in over a decade. I may this December though, so I'll have my camera prepared X)

I see. n.n Then hopefully you will be able to fly in December. From where to where are you going?

Florida to California. I don't think I've been to California before, but I can't wait to see it over there. It'll be a long flight.

I see. Hm, such a long flight? How long exactly? America must be bigger than I imagined... then again, I live in a very small country, Switzerland, and am not familiar with large scales like that of America.

Well, I haven't been on a flight across America in a very long time so I wouldn't know precisely. Over 6 or 7 hours potentially.
